full.synanon-6sh-20583

Original Columbia Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Richard Quine drama, SYNANON (1965) starring Edmond O’Brien, Chuck Connors, Stella Stevens, and Alex Cord. Synanon House was a rehab center for heroin addicts at a time when there were really few avenues of any kind of help for addicts. Director Richard Quine took his cast to a Synanon House in Santa Monica, California to make this film about addicts and their struggle. The story follows the path of an two addicts who meet and fall in love. Their outcomes, are, predictably, different. The film did little business in 1965. The forward nature of the film, as exemplified by this six sheet poster may be a clue as to why. Nevertheless, the movie is a pointer to more films in the seventies and beyond about the taboo subject of drug addiction. The poster is folded but in near mint, never used condition. Six sheets are large posters and this poster is printed on four separate panels which are joined together for display.

TOO LATE BLUES (1961) 9505

full.toolateblues-sc-9505

Original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the John Cassavetes drama, TOO LATE BLUES (1961) starring Bobby Darin, Stella Stevens, Everett Chambers, and Nick Dennis. This is the story of jazz musician “Ghost” Wakefield (Darin), who never craved fame and fortune until he met singer wannabe Jess (Stevens), a woman who has been misused by men all her life. Darin creates a very realistic character as the bandleader who just concentrates on the transcendental beauty of a mellow, instrumental type of jazz. But Jess wants him to play the more commercially successful blues. In this scene card, Stevens is shown at a bar with a martini. An unknown player and actor Val Avery admire her. Stevens was one of the lesser starlets of the 1960s, but ooh la la. Have a cocktail! Fine condition. Very small tear in lower border area – about 3/8 inch.
