Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the James P. Hogan sport comedcy, $1000 A TOUCHDOWN (1939)– starring Joe E. Brown, Martha Raye, Eric Blore, and Susan Hayward. In this fun comedy, Marlowe Booth (Brown) and Martha Madison (Raye) are two unsuccessful actors starting a drama college, but find they can’t attract any applicants without forming a football team. When the other colleges refuse to play them, Booth and Madison arrange a match against a pro team and bet the bank on the college. The New York Times called it a “painfully witless football farce of fantastic unoriginality” and it seems most people agreed. A young Susan Hayward has a secondary role as the “romance teacher.” Folded. Very good to fine condition.

Just before the era of CinemaScope, Twentieth Century Fox shot this film one year after MGM’s QUO VADIS? had made audiences hungry for sex, big scale and Technicolor. The widescreen would usher in THE EGYPTIAN, THE ROBE, LAND OF THE PHAROAHS. But this film had much going for it in terms of script, and took in $7,000,000 in box office receipts. The poster is in very good condition, folded, with a small chip out of the top border area.

Original RKO Title Lobby Card (11×14) for the Irving Pichel film-noir drama, THEY WON’T BELIEVE ME (1947) starring Robert Young, Susan Hayward, Jane Greer, and Rita Johnson. Before his beloved TV characters—the wise dad on “Father Knows Best ” or the kindly Dr. Marcus Welby, Robert Young played many different characters, not all of them good guys. In this film he gives remarkable depth to the role of a man who marries a woman for her money (Johnson) and then cheats on her constantly. The three actresses also give outstanding performances, particularly Rita Johnson as the manipulative wife with a touching frailty and Susan Hayward as office girl with lofty ambitions. This original title lobby card is in very good condition.
