Original Pathe Industries One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Irving Pichel sci-fi adventure, DESTINATION MOON (1950)—starring John Archer, Warner Anderson, Tom Powers, and Dick Wesson. This early sci-fi adventure about an expedition to the moon arranged by a private businessman is remarkably accurate for 1950—19 years before the actual moon mission. An enormous amount of time and effort were expended to make it as technically accurate as possible for 1950 (“Two years in the making” according to the tagline). While critics have complained that the characters are shallow, trite, and dull—the visuals are surprisingly impressive for the time—and in color. Chesley Bonestell’s amazing artwork, especially of the lunar landscape, is stunning even today. Bonestell would later collaborate with rocket scientist Wernher von Braun to illustrate the future of space flight in a series of articles for Collier’s Weekly in 1952. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.
