full.trapeze-front of house set-4947

Original Set of 8 British Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Carol Reed circus drama, TRAPEZE (1956) starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, and Gina Lollobrigida. One of the best circus films ever made, the story revolves around three trapeze performers. Mike (Lancaster) was a great trapeze artist before his accident. Tino (Curtis) joins the circus and convinces Mike to teach him the triple somersault. Lollobrigida adds sex appeal to the trapeze act and is also emotionally involved with both artists. Lancaster performed all of his trapeze stunts himself, as he had been a circus performer before he entered pictures. He even convinced Carol Reed to let him do the climatic triple flip. These original British front of house cards are slightly worn but overall in fine condition. One card has some paper loss at the bottom edge.

Opposing political factions by Olivier and Laughton try to use the revolt to further their political ends. Besides outstanding performances from the entire cast and expert direction by Kubrick, the film has beautiful cinematography by Russell Metty and a brilliant score by Alex North. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards and won five Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor to Ustinov and Best Cinematography to Metty. These front-of-house cards served as the British equivalent of lobby cards. A full front of house set is rare.

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Rudolph Mate adventure classic, THE PRINCE WHO WAS A THIEF (1951) starring Tony Curtis, Piper Laurie, Everett Sloane, and Jeff Corey. Much has been made of the heavy accent of the young Curtis, but otherwise he ably portrays a young man who is raised by a thief only to later discover that he is the rightful prince of the kingdom. The film was part of Universal’s grooming process aimed at transforming Curtis from a contract player to a full-fledged star. The script is well written, the direction is smooth, and the technical merits of the film are very good—especially the musical score by Hans Salter. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine to near mint condition.
