Film studios and movie theaters were looking for any gimmick that would bring audiences back to the theaters. 3-D was one such device, and this film was Warner Brothers’ first 3-D film. This wonderful, creepy scare-fest also has sumptuous sets, lush color, and memorable performances—especially from Vincent Price. This original Belgian poster is folded and in very fine condition.

Unfortunately, the inventor dies before he can complete Edward’s hands; instead, he is left with metal scissors for hands. He has been horribly disfigured during an African voodoo ceremony, and , as a result, has gone completely mad. After faking his death, he seeks revenge on those he feels are responsible for his condition. The film was besieged by a number of production problems. Screenwriter Lawrence Huntington died shortly after completing the script. Also, Gordon Hessler replaced the original director Michael Reeves because of his dependence on drugs and suicidal tendencies. Reeves actually did commit suicide in February of 1969 during the pre-production of the film. This half sheet is folded and in fine condition; fold lines are apparent as in the photograph.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original American International One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Michael Reeves’ horror film THE CONQUEROR WORM (aka WITCHFINDER GENERAL/1968) starring Vincent Price, Ian Ogilvy, Patrick Wymark and Wilfred Brambell. This was one of a handful of films made by British director Michael Reeve before his untimely death from a drug overdose. Based on this terrifying and powerful film, his career might have been extremely productive if not acclaimed. Here, Vincent Price portrays an evil and calculating “Witchfinder General” riding the English Countryside in search of witches to prosecute and destroy. This tale of sadism, violence, and torture is not for the lighthearted but the quality of the direction and performances lend it a aura of authenticity. Director Reeves asked Vincent Price to tamp down the level of his histrionics resulting in one of the finest performances of the actor’s career. Note: the title THE CONQUEROR WORM was from a poem by Edgar Allen Poe. This was used in the United States to tie the film in with a series of Poe adaptations AIP had successfully promoted throughout the 1960s. The poster is folded and in near mint condition.

Original American International Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Roger Corman Gothic horror classic, PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1961) starring Vincent Price, John Kerr, and Barbara Steele. Artfully adapted from the Edgar Allan Poe story by Richard Matheson, this was the second in Corman’s cycle of Poe stories and is considered by many critics to be his best horror film. Delightfully lurid and lavish, this film incorporates both dazzling color and abhorrent darkness to keep the mood and atmosphere suspenseful and threatening. The real star of the film is the pendulum, which was razor sharp. To increase the pendulum’s sense of deadly menace, Corman took out every other frame during the editing stage to make the blade appear to move twice as fast. This original three sheet poster is in very fine condition.

The film became the biggest box office hit for director Neumann, but he would never know it. He died only a week before the film went into general release. This original insert poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

The local police investigator Dave (Mature), who some years earlier had an affair with Linda before he was sent overseas, tries to sort out the truth about what really happened. By the end of the picture, Lloyd turns out to be wanted for embezzlement charges back in New York, which allows Linda to divorce him, take back her old singing job in Vegas, and revive her old relationship with Dave. Besides the excellent performance by Jane Russell, the other stand-out performance of the film are the three songs written by Hoagy Carmichael—”The Monkey Song” performed by Carmichael, “I Get Along Without You Very Well” performed by Russell, and “My Resistance is Low” performed by both of them. The poster is unbacked in very fine plus condition. No damage to the image area at all and vivid color. The border area of the top panel has a small chip. Three sheets are printed on two panels which must be joined to display the full poster. RKO posters from this period are some of the best film posters of the 1950s. Three sheets may be linen backed.
