Original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Josef von Sternberg war drama, DISHONORED (1931) starring Marlene Dietrich, Warner Oland and Victor McLaglen. Dietrich plays a Viennese prostitute who is recruited by the Austrian Secret Service to spy on the Russians for them. But after she falls in love with a Russian officer (McLaglen) and allows him to escape, she is executed for treason. Von Sternberg quickly wrote this new story to capitalize on the success of MOROCCO (1930), which starred Dietrich and Gary Cooper. This beautiful, honey-varnished card has McLaglen holding Dietrich in his arms. This original lobby card is in fine plus condition with only some light creases, minor scuffs and surface wear.

CHINATOWN NIGHTS (1929) 7949

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the William Wellman crime drama, CHINATOWN NIGHTS (1929) starring Wallace Berry, Florence Vidor, and Warner Oland about the “Tong Wars” in San Francisco in the 1920s. This film began as a silent picture, but production stopped to adapt it to sound. Dialogue was written in four days and filming resumed. This major change from the silent era to “talkies” ended many acting careers, including Vidor who abruptly left filmmaking after shooting her scenes in this film. She did not return to dub in her voice; rather, Nella Walker dubbed Vidor’s lines. This very rare style B one sheet poster is in very fine condition with modest paper repair and touch-up at fold lines. Atmospheric and beautiful, this poster is representative of the great “look” of Paramount posters from this era. Notice the absence of any border. This is characteristic of Paramount posters from several years during this period.

Original 20th Century Fox Stone Lithograph Six Sheet Poster (exact dimensions 79×80) for the James Tinling mystery thriller, CHARLIE CHAN IN SHANGHAI (1935)– starring Warner Oland, Irene Hervey, Jon Hall, and Russell Hicks. In this ninth film in the popular, long-running Chan series, the Chinese government calls Chan to Shanghai to investigate a murder involving an opium ring, whose leaders kidnap Charlie and attempt to have him killed. This action-packed, complex mystery is the only film in the series set in China. Although Chan films are often accused of being racist, the Chan character was just about the only positive Asian character in Hollywood films of the 1930s, and the series was tremendously popular with the Asian-American audiences of the era. This beautiful stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.
