This is an original Warner Brothers 2000 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the sci-fi masterpiece, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and William Sylvester. Based on the Arthur C. Clarke story called “The Sentinel,” the film is essentially a story about evolution. Sometime in the distant past, “something” nudged evolution by placing a monolith on earth that imparts the knowledge of tool use to early humanoids. Evolution then enables mankind to reach the moon, where yet another monolith is “deliberately buried” and emits a signal aimed at Jupiter. Then, six astronauts (four in hibernation) and a very sophisticated computer embark on a journey to Jupiter in hopes of finding the source. The pace is slow with incredible attention to detail, which very realistically envisions the future of technology. The special effects that were pioneered for this film are still breathtaking by today’s standards. Kubrick’s use of a classical music score creates an atmosphere of awe, mystery, and intrigue. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Kubrick and Best Screenplay for Clarke and Kubrick. Stanley Kubrick was nominated several times for Academy Awards, but won one: the Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects for 2001. This original re-release one sheet poster is rolled and in very fine to near mint condition.
