Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Woody Allen crime comedy, TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN (1969) starring Allen, Janet Margolin, Marcel Hillaire, Jackson Beck, and Jacquelyn Hyde. The film is a clever quasi-documentary about the life of a petty and totally incompetent criminal named Virgil (Allen). This was only Allen’s second film as director, and he was still trying to work out a formula for translating his popular stand-up humor to film. Not every joke comes off successfully, but certainly there are many laugh out loud until you almost cry kind of moments in the film. Jackson Beck’s FBI tough guy narration is perfect for making the outrageous situations seem “serious.” This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus to very fine condition.

KING LEAR (1987) 20352

Original Cannon Film Distributors One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Jean-Luc Godard contemporary punk-apocalyptic updating of the Shakespeare classic, KING LEAR (1987) starring Woody Allen, Freddy Buache, Leos Carax, and Julie Delpy. A strange and surreal film that asks the question: what would we do if all the great works of literature were suddenly lost? Godard’s usual Marxist rhetoric, though not entirely absent, is less strident here than in earlier works. But often the film is truly incomprehensible. Critics seem to be either very much impressed or completely bored to death. One critic admits to having watched the film over a 100 times, “and many of those times I feel as if I’m watching it for the first time.” But other critics lament: “Not content merely to bore us, Godard assaults us with shot after shot of crudely filmed, irrelevant imagery, accompanied by unintelligible overlapping speech.” This original one sheet poster, which is clever, is folded and in very fine condition.

Intended to be the ultimate spy spoof, it is both a satire of Bond movies and even more a satire of the “cool” and “hip” films of the late 1960s. Some critics have described it as a screwball comedy with a touch of British absurdity. This very rare style B advance one sheet poster is folded and in very good plus condition. All of the acting performances are great, with Hemingway receiving a nomination of for Best Supporting Actress. The script is witty, and Allen and Marshall Brickman received the film’s only other Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Shot in black and white, the cinematography is more than gorgeous. This is the first Allen film to use the widescreen Panavision process. With the music of George Gershwin enveloping every scene, the whole experience of this film is first rate. ZELIG (1983) 3086

This is an original Orion Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Woody Allen comedy fantasy, ZELIG (1983) starring Allen, Mia Farrow, and Patrick Hogan. This innovative film is a fictional documentary about the life of Leonard Zelig, a man who becomes famous in the 1920s for this ability look and act like whoever is around him. Not only is it a fake documentary (“mockumentary”), but it also sustains this format throughout the entire film. Allen used special lenses to create old style newsreels from the 1920s. He also used real photo stills from the period as well as mixing real footage with his own to give a compelling allusion of authenticity.
