Joan Crawford deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Actress, and both Eve Arden and Ann Blyth were nominated for Best Supporting Actress. It was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay. As a rather bleak look at the exploitation a woman working in a man’s world can expect, this film was refreshingly frank for the time.
