Original British Set of 8 Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Billy Wilder musical comedy, THE EMPEROR WALTZ (1948) starring Bing Crosby, Joan Fontaine, Roland Culver, Lucile Watson, and Richard Haydn. The story revolves around traveling salesman Virgil Smith (Crosby), who wants to sell gramophones in pre-war Austria-Hungry. He especially wants to sell one to Emperor Franz Joseph (Haydn). Wilder wanted the film to be a biting satire of the court of Franz Joseph, but Crosby had a lot of influence with the Paramount executives and insisted on the box office confectionary that the film ultimately became. The film received Academy Award nominations for Best Costume Design and Best Musical Score for Victor Young. This original set of British front of house cards very from fine plus to very fine condition.

Original United Artists (Britain) front of house cards for the Billy Wilder romantic comedy, IRMA LA DOUCE (1963) starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. With absurdly funny situations and snappy dialogue, this film is the story of a Parisian policeman (Lemmon) who becomes the lover (and unwilling pimp) of a carefree prostitute (MacLaine). Andre Previn won the Academy Award for Best Music, and MacLaine was nominated for Best Actress. These front of house cards, which served as lobby cards in Britain, are in very fine plus condition. Really quite nice. The cards are sent in the original cello bag they came in. We also have other posters on this film.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Billy Wilder romantic comedy, THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH (1955) starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. This humorous look at the problems of a middle-aged, married man is arguably one of the funniest sex farces ever made. Left alone -sweltering – in New York City all summer while his wife and son are vacationing in Maine, Ewell meets Monroe—and the fun begins. Of course, the film is famous for the scene of Monroe standing over the subway grate, but throughout the film the comic timing of Ewell and Monroe is flawless. Indeed, Ewell won the Golden Globe for Best Actor and Billy Wilder won the Outstanding Directorial Achievement award from the Directors Guild of America. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.

This is an original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Billy Wilder fast and funny cold-war comedy, ONE, TWO, THREE (1961) starring James Cagney, Horst Buchholz, Pamela Tiffin, and Arlene Francis. Cagney’s character runs the German branch of Coca-Cola in Berlin. He realizes that he may be fired if he can’t keep his American boss’s daughter (Tiffin) from marrying a raging communist (Buchholz). Even though the Berlin Wall began construction during production, Wilder nevertheless had a ball reducing the Cold War to its basic absurdities. This was James Cagney’s last major role in his long and illustrious career. He was patient and kind to the relatively inexperienced Tiffin (her third feature film) but came to loath Buchholz, whom he accused of trying to steal every scene. The film received a lone Academy Award nomination for best Black and White Cinematography for Daniel L. Fapp. The poster is autographed by Billy Wilder. The poster is folded and in fine plus condition. An excellent example of a Saul Bass poster. The poster says DESIGNED BY SAUL BASS.
