Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Curtis Bernhardt film noir thriller, POSSESSED (1947) starring Joan Crawford, Van Heflin, and Raymond Massey. Psychological thrillers were all the rage after the end of World War II. In this film Crawford plays a woman who becomes obsessed with Van Heflin—leading her to hallucinations, hysteria, and finally a breakdown. This film is certainly one of Joan Crawford’s best performances of her career, and her lively portrayal garnered her the first of her three nominations for Best Actress. DAMON AND PYTHIAS (1962) 2816

full.damonandpythias-1sh-2816

Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Curtis Bernhardt adventure epic, DAMON AND PYTHIAS (1962)– starring Guy Williams, Don Burnett, Ilaria Occhini, Arnoldo Foa, and Marina Berti. Typical sword and sandal material, the film’s native title is IL TIRANNO DI SIRACUSA. Williams and Burnett play the famous friends who foil the nefarious tyrant Dionysius (Arnoldo Foa). Not pictured on the poster is the beautiful Marina Berti, who played an uncredited part as Charlton Heston’s Roman ladyfriend in the Arrius’ party sequence in BEN-HUR. The French refer to this type of Italian epic as “peplum”, so called because of the short skirts the men often wear in costume. And this film was certainly an Italian effort with an almost entirely Italian crew and filmed at Italy’s famous Cinecitta Studios. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

KISSES FOR MY PRESIDENT (1964) 11463

full.kissesformypresident-1sh-11463

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Curtis Bernhardt comedy, KISSES FOR MY PRESIDENT (1964) starring Fred MacMurray, Polly Bergen, Eli Wallach, Arlene Dahl. MacMurray is the first “lady” in this role-switching light comedy of the mid-sixties. We’ve not had a woman President yet in the USA, but pretty and sophisticated Polly Bergen wouldn’t have been a bad start in ’64. MacMurray was almost in career wind-up by this time, but Bergen starred in several good films in this decade, including her memorable performace in CAPE FEAR. This folded one sheet is in fine condition.

THE MERRY WIDOW (1952) 17825

full.themerrywidow-insert-17825

Original MGM Insert Poster (14×36) for the Curtis Bernhardt musical, THE MERRY WIDOW (1952)– starring Lana Turner, Fernando Lamas, Una Merkel, and Richard Haydn. Bernhardt’s THE MERRY WIDOW is the third take on this story, preceded by the 1934 version starring Maurice Chevalier and the 1925 version starring Mae Murray. In this remake, Crystal Radek (Lana Turner) is the widow of a wealthy native of the fictional country of Marishkovia, which is now broke. So, the Marshkovian king dispatches Count Danilo (Fernando Lamas) to seduce Radek and bring her fortune back to its homeland. Turner’s singing was panned and the film was not very successful, but as an MGM musical from the 50s it is a curious failure among such greats as SINGING IN THE RAIN, GIGI, LILI etc. A good image of Lana Turner, however, on a poster which is in very fine, folded, condition.
