The sweeping desert vistas totally immerse the viewer, and the battle scenes are gripping. Original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the David Lean Venetian romance, SUMMERTIME (1955) starring Katharine Hepburn, Rossano Brazzi, Isa Miranda, and Darren McGavin. This excellent drama was adapted from a Broadway play “The Time of the Cuckoo” by Arthur Laurents. It is a wonderful mood piece that captures the loneliness of a traveler in a foreign land, in this case a lonely spinster (Hepburn) who is hungry for love but too repressed to accept the love that married Brazzi offers. Reported to be the director’s favorite film, it is a stunningly beautiful movie that boasts great performances from Hepburn and Brazzi. Hepburn was nominated for Best Actress and Lean was nominated for Best Director. This original scene lobby card is in fine plus condition, with only some minor pinholes, creases, and one small tear in the bottom border.
