OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers Insert Poster (14×36) for the Delmer Daves family drama, SUSAN SLADE (1961) starring Troy Donahue, Connie Stevens, Dorothy McGuire, and Lloyd Nolan. Stevens plays a young and naive girl falling in love for the first time. Unfortunately, her boyfriend is tragically killed before they can get married– leaving her unwed and pregnant. What could have been another corny 60s soap opera is elevated by good direction, beautiful photography, and a lush musical score by Max Steiner. This original insert poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.

BUTTERFIELD 8 (1960) 13607

full.butterfield8-6sh-13607

Original Six sheet poster for the Daniel Mann drama BUTTERFIELD 8 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Laurence Harvey, and Eddie Fisher. Elizabeth Taylor was facing the scorn of a nation – for “stealing” Debbie Reynold’s husband Eddie Fisher – when MGM decided to cash in on the scandal and make Taylor take this role of bad-girl-from-hell as the final film in her contract to the studio. Taylor purportedly hated the movie, but it turned out to be Gold for her. The film is adapted from John O’Hara’s prohibition-era novel about a high class call-girl. But in this film, set contemporaneously, Elizabeth Taylor plays a hard-drinking, sexed-up, bed-hopping model, who gets her kicks from seducing and then dumping one man after another. Taylor always complained that the film was a total piece of trash. But her over-the-top performance was just what the role required and won her the first of her two Oscars for Best Actress. What is unfathomable is how anyone could be interested in cold-fish Laurence Harvey. When Taylor grinds her stiletto heels into Harvey’s toes, we cheer. Elizabeth’s best line in the film: “I’m not like anyone; I”m me.” Taylor never had, in any film, a more biographical line. This handsome poster is shown in four individual photos of the four panels. The poster is unassembled. The four panels are joined together to make one large format poster. The lower right panel is soiled, but not irreparably. We recommend restoration for this poster. There are some chips out of the poster, some small holes. We have therefore graded the poster as good plus. Ask us about poster conservation and linen backing.

DARK PASSAGE (1947) 12750

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Delmar Daves film noir DARK PASSAGE (1947) starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Agnes Moorehead and Bruce Bennett. One of four films costarring the legendary couple, DARK PASSAGE is also a superb example of a classic late 1940s film noir — chock full of murder, foggy San Francisco atmosphere, revenge, jealousy and a police manhunt. Bogart portrays an escaped San Quentin convict returning to the City by the Bay in search of the murderer responsible for sending him to the “big house.” With the help of a very young and lovely Lauren Bacall, the mystery is solved thanks to a complicated plot involving plastic surgery and identity change. In the end, the lovers reunite on a beach in Peru! Any original paper from the Bogart/Bacall collaborations is considered a top-flight piece of movie memorabilia. The poster has a small amount of intersection fold distress with very minimal separation but is in very fine condition. There are some small pinholes but no missing image.

3:10 TO YUMA (1957) 20640

full.310toyuma 6shCopy

Original Columbia Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for Delmer Daves western thriller 3:10 TO YUMA, one of the last great westerns of the 1950s. Recently remade into a popular film starring Russell Crowe, here is the original, starring Glenn Ford as the outlaw and Van Heflin as the man paid to escort him to the gallows. The design of the six sheet is particularly good. The image shown on our photograph shows a former example which we had which had a Belgian censor stamp on the poster. Our present copy is near mint and unused, and with no censor stamp. As we get an opportunity to photograph the poster, we will post. Or, if you are interested, contact us and we will send you a photo. Very fine to near mint condition. One of the best western six sheets we have found. Rare in this size.

Original French One Panel Poster (47×63) for the Daniel Mann drama BUTTERFIELD 8 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Laurence Harvey, and Eddie Fisher. What is unfathomable is how anyone could be interested in cold-fish Laurence Harvey. When Taylor grinds her stiletto heels into Harvey’s toes, we cheer. Elizabeth’s best line in the film: “I’m not like anyone; I”m me.” Truer words were never spoken. BUTTERFIELD 8 is a true Movieart favorite. This beautiful French 47×63 is a wonderful example of stone lithography with art is by Roger Soubie and is in very fine condition. This poster should be linen backed because of fold separations at the intersections which could be enlarged if the poster is not handled with care. The integrity of the paper, however, is quite nice.

BROKEN ARROW (1950) 12680

full.brokenarrow-1sh-12680

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Delmer Daves western, BROKEN ARROW (1950) starring James Stewart, Jeff Chandler, and Debra Paget. This wonderfully adapted screenplay from the Elliott Arnold novel “Blood Brother” tells the moving story of former army scout Tom Jeffords (Stewart) who wants to make peace with the Native Americans and stop ten years of cruel bloodshed. He bravely goes to the Apache stronghold and begins a dialogue with their chief Cochise (Chandler). He also falls in love with an Indian princess (Paget). Though most of the Native American roles were played by whites, the film is considered groundbreaking because of its portrayal of them in a humane light. The film was nominated for three Oscars—Best Supporting Actor for Chandler, Best Adapted Screenplay for Albert Maltz, and Best Color Cinematography for Ernest Palmer. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.

SPENCERS MOUNTAIN (1963) 955

full.spencersmountain-22x28-955

Original Warner Bros. Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Delmer Daves family drama, SPENCER’S MOUNTAIN (1963) starring Henry Fonda, Maureen O’Hara, and James MacArthur. This excellent drama is based on the autobiographical novel by Earl Hamner Jr., which also inspired the popular TV series “The Waltons.” However, instead of depression-era Appalachia, the Spencers make their lives in contemporary Wyoming. Indeed, the film benefits remarkably from the breathtaking location in Grand Teton National Park. Fonda and O’Hara give wonderfully warm and sensitive performances, as does MacArthur as their oldest and gifted son, Clay Boy (John Boy in the TV show). This original half sheet poster is rolled and in very fine plus condition.
