JULIET OF THE SPIRITS (1965) [GIULIETTA DEGLI SPIRITI] 21269

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original U.S. One sheet poster, never folded, for Federico Fellini’s GIULIETTA DEGLI SPIRITI (JULIET OF THE SPIRITS) [1965] starring Giulietta Masina, Sylva Koscina, Sandra Milo and Lou Gilbert. Hallucinatory – that’s the word that is often used to describe Fellini’s color extravaganza. Fellini starred his wife, the amazing Giulietta Masina. This American one sheet is unusual in that it was never folded, odd for a U.S. poster from that time. There is some significant edgewear on one border, however. Nevertheless, unfolded. Rare.

FELLINI’S CASANOVA (1977) 7574

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Federico Fellini biographical drama, FELLINI’S CASANOVA (1976) starring Donald Sutherland, Tina Aumont, and Cicely Browne. Casanova was an 18th Century Venetian writer, wit, and aesthete living in an era of grand opulence but also of grand waste, and Sutherland portrays Casanova as both a sexually ravenous as well as a deeply cynical man. A frightening but hauntingly beautiful film, many critics consider it to be Fellini’s last great film and Sutherland’s career best performance. The film was nominated for Best Screenplay and deservedly won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition.

ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL (1978) 7576

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Gaumont/New Yorker Films One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Federico Fellini pseudo-documentary, ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL (1978) starring Balduin Baas, Clara Colosimo, Elizabeth Labi, and Ronaldo Bonacchi. One of the finest make-believe documentaries ever made, this film tells the story of the members of an orchestra as they assemble for rehearsal in a medieval Roman chapel. But the film moves from realism to pure hyperbole when it degenerates into major pandemonium by the end of the film. The music score by Nino Rota is excellent as always; indeed, this score was perhaps more important than his earlier Fellini scores. Alas, this will be the last score from Rota as he would die the following year. This original one sheet poster with artwork by Bonhomme is folded and in very fine condition.

FELLINI’S ROMA (1972) 7575

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Federico Fellini docu-drama fantasy, FELLINI’S ROMA (1972) starring Peter Gonzales, Fiona Florence, Britta Barnes, and Pia De Doses. Adopting a documentary style at times and historical reenactment at others, this surreal and impressionistic portrait of Rome blends autobiographical memories of the director with scenes of present-day Rome. There are a host of truly memorable scenes: the ecclesiastical fashion show, the deli-style brothel, the family style meal, and the discovery and destruction of Roman ruins during construction of the subway system. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition—with slight wear, some toning, and minor fold separations.

LA DOLCE VITA (1959) 18992

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Astor Pictures One Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Federico Fellini masterpiece, LA DOLCE VITA (1960) starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, and Anouk Aimee. The iconic image of Anita Ekberg holding a kitten – from the scene where she wades through the Trevi fountain – became the central image of the campaign for this film in the U.S. This film depicts seven days (and nights) in the life of an Italian journalist (Mastroianni), who is torn between making something serious of his life or drifting along on a pleasant stream of casual affairs and meaningless work. Fellini gives us a wonderful chronicle of a decadent society where there are no real values other than alcohol and sex, and no solutions except suicide. Fellini’s widescreen look at Roman life at the beginning of the sixties mirrors Hollywood’s fascination with historical Roman epics of the period. LA DOLCE VITA is, quite simply, one of the most famous films in the history of the cinema. It created a sensation when it was released. A landmark score by Nino Rota leaves an indelible imprint in the minds of all who see this film for the first time. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Fellini, Best Screenplay, and Best Art Direction. It won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. We grade this as Fine Plus. There is a small chip missing out of the border area on the upper right corner, easily restored with linen backing. Image area is very fine. We will sell this either backed or unbacked for the price stated. Ask us about linen backing services through one of our
skilled conservationists.

FELLINI SATYRICON (1969) 9196

full.fellinisatryicon-1sh

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Federico Fellini Roman fantasy, FELLLINI SATYRICON (1969) starring Martin Potter, Hiram Keller, and Max Born. The script is loosely based on the book written in the time of the Emperor Nero by the Roman writer Petronius. The book has survived only in fragments, and the film faithfully reflects that by being fragmentary also. The film follows the adventures and exploits of two young Roman men who are rivals in love for a coquettish and androgynous slave-boy. The whole story is told in a non-linear narrative structure with temporal inconsistencies and sudden changes in the dream-like mood and setting. The film evokes every extreme fantasy we might harbor about Roman decadence. The poster is folded and in fine plus condition with no fold separations.
