PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES (1939) 4693

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet poster for the Ritz Brothers film PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES (1939). Jane Withers, the poor man’s Shirley Temple was, at this time, making the transition from child star to teen actress. In this film she plays the American daughter of a French officer who meets up with the Brothers (playing themselves) who are traveling around Europe looking for work. All of this takes place during World War I. It’s a serviceable comedy in which the underrated Jane Withers holds her own. Jane Withers had a decent career and later because one of the leading collectors of film memorabilia. Here is a link to a great interview with Jane Withers: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/corp/magazine/transcripts/11-02-2000.1-1.shtml

Folded. Very minor fold separation at the top fold intersection. Minor distresses and tear in the border area only. Otherwise very fine.

This is an original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the early H. Bruce Humberstone film-noir thriller, HOT SPOT (1941) the original working title but later changed to I WAKE UP SCREAMING (1941) based on a serialized novel by Steve Fisher and starring Betty Grable, Victor Mature, and Laird Cregar. This excellent thriller has a good plot, polished elegance, sly humor, and superb character performances. It was World War II pin-up girl Grable’s first dramatic role as the sister of a murdered model, and many film critics consider this film to be Victor Mature’s best role. But the standout performance is Laird Cregar, the obsessive and corrupt police detective, who is genuinely creepy if not outright frightening. This early film noir has a strong sense of visual style created by the great cinematography of Edward Cronjager, who uses the dramatic angles and camera lighting, for which film noir would become recognized, to great effect. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition. There is some restoration at the top fold lines.
