DEAR BRIGITTE (1965) 2286

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster for the Henry Koster comedy, DEAR BRIGITTE (1965) starring James Stewart, Fabian, Glynis Johns, Cindy Carol, Bill Mumy, and Brigitte Bardot. The main theme of this film has Professor Leaf (Stewart) granting the wish of his 8-year-old, math whiz son Erasmus (Mumy) to meet French film starlet Brigitte Bardot. This was Stewart’s third and final comedy made at Fox during the 1960s under the direction of Henry Koster. The movie was going to be called ERASMUS WITH FRECKLES, after the book on which it was based. But Brigitte Bardot only agreed to appear in the film on the condition that her name did not appear on the credits or any promotional materials. The only way for the producers to capitalize on the popularity of Bardot was by changing the title to alert the audience that she was in the film. With Jack Davis artwork, this original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition—with a small interior tear and some pinholes. This poster would line-back nicely.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Polish Poster (26×38) for the Henry Koster family comedy, TAKE HER, SHE’S MINE (1963) starring James Stewart, Sandra Dee, Audrey Meadows, Philippe Forquet, Robert Morley, Bob Denver, John McGiver and Irene Tsu. In this typical early 1960s comedy, Stewart plays a worried father concerned that his college co-ed daughter (Sandra Dee) is becoming a libertine. He follows her to Europe keeping an eye on her every move. In the end, she’s revealed to be nice girl and the father gets into a variety of sketchy predicaments. The poster art features an image of a typical American businessman screaming — sort of a pop-art, MAD MEN version of Edvard Munch’s THE SCREAM. Art is by Wesja Jestmoja.

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Henry Koster’s THE ROBE (1953) starring Richard Burton, Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, Michael Rennie, Dean Jagger, Jay Robinson, Torin Thatcher and Richard Boone. This epic tale of the crucifixion of Christ and the healing power of faith was originally advertised as “The first motion picture in CinemaScope–the modern miracle you see without glasses!” Thanks to Philip Dunne’s literate script and some impressive musical scoring and production values, this Biblical epic told a persuasive tale of multiple individuals — gladiators, slaves and centurions — caught up in the infamous reign of the psychotic Roman emperor, Caligula. This one sheet poster for the film’s 1963 re-release is in very fine condition. There are some pinholes. Colors are bright and unfaded.

D-DAY THE SIXTH OF JUNE (1956) 8667

full.ddaythesixthofjune-22x28-8667

Original 20th Century-Fox Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Henry Koster war drama, D-DAY THE SIXTH OF JUNE (1956) starring Robert Taylor, Richard Todd, Dana Wynter, and Edmond O’Brien. This is a rather conventional telling, from the perspective of the decade immediately after World War II, of the invasion of Normandy that freed western Europe from the grip of the Nazis. A poignant tale of love and loss is woven into the fabric of the military story, and director Koster handles the material conscientiously. Wynter is beautiful. This half sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition. There is a small border tear on the left side about midway. Good color.

ONE HUNDRED MEN AND A GIRL (1937) 19951

full.100 Men and a Girl

Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41.5×80.5) for the Henry Koster musical comedy, ONE HUNDRED MEN AND A GIRL (1937) starring Deanna Durbin, Leopold Stokowski, and Adolphe Menjou. This is the story of the daughter (Durbin) of a struggling musician (Menjou) who forms a symphony orchestra made up of unemployed musicians and through persistence and charm convinces Leopold Stokowski to conduct a concert that leads to a lucrative radio contract. The one hundred men in the title refers to the members of the Philadelphia Orchestra who recorded all of the classical music on a multi-channel sound system—the first time a multi-channel system was used to record music for a film. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards—including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. The film won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original offset lithograph three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.
