MONKEY BUSINESS (1952) 5585

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Polish Poster (12×16) for the Howard Hawks screwball comedy, MONKEY BUSINESS(1952) starring Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, Marilyn Monroe and Charles Coburn. An absolutely insane plot involving monkeys, a secret chemical formula, romance, and hysterical dementia utilizes all the comic abilities of the lead actors. Poster design features the classic image of Marilyn with her dress blowing up from the subway air exhaust (THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH) while a chimpanzee leers at her. Very Fine. Note that this is a rather small poster.

THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951) 12763-8

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original RKO Lobby Card (11×14) for Christian Nyby’s THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951) starring Margaret Sheridan, Kenneth Tobey, Edward Franz, and James Arness. The 1950s was an era full of fear and wonder about the future, outer space, alien invasions and the nuclear age. THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD speculates that an alien spacecraft had crash landed in the Arctic. Once discovered and unearthed, a creature emerges (played by GUNSMOKE’S James Arness) threatening military personnel at a nearby science camp. This taut, effective film is widely believed to have been primarily directed by producer Howard Hawks. THE THING began the cycle of science-fiction films of the era and material on this highly-collected genre has proven to be among the most valued in the hobby to this day. The lobby card is in Near Mint condition. An excellent example.

Original Paramount Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Howard Hawks sport drama, RED LINE 7000 (1965)—starring James Caan, Marianna Hall, Laura Devon, and Gail Hire. This film is the story of three racecar drivers and their girlfriends. Although the racing scenes are very exciting, the dramatic scenes between the drivers and girlfriends are more like a campy, delicious soap opera. Caan and Hill, however, create some very dynamic chemistry in their scenes together. This original three sheet poster is in very fine condition.

THE OUTLAW (1943) 16412

full.theoutlaw-22x28R-16412

Original United International Productions late fifties or early sixties Re-release Half Sheet (22×28) for the Howard Hughes sex-western, THE OUTLAW (1943)–starring Jane Russell, Jack Buetel, Thomas Mitchell, and Walter Huston. Howard Hawks started as director but quit after two weeks. Howard Hughes then took over himself as director. Though the film was finished in February 1941, it was not shown theatrically for another two years, mostly because of censorship problems, which required cuts and revisions. It was finally released in February 1943, but censorship hassles caused Hughes to shelve it again until 1946. Even then, the owner of the theater in San Francisco was arrested for showing a film “offensive to decency.” Original posters for THE OUTLAW can cost a lot, but this garish reissue poster gives you the basic Russell in all her Rustic Glory. Buetel plays a pretty boy Billy the Kid. The poster is in fine plus condition.

This is an original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the 1946 Howard Hawks film-noir masterpiece, THE BIG SLEEP, starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Dorothy Malone. One of the best Raymond Chandler novels brought to the big screen, it is a story of private-eye Philip Marlowe (Bogart) who is hired to keep track of General Sternwood’s youngest daughter, but in the process he falls in love with her older sister Vivian (Bacall). The delightful and witty banter between the two stars is one of the high points of this film. Though first performing opposite each other in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (1944), this film cemented the Bogart/Bacall on-screen and off-screen love affair. This original scene lobby card with a wonderful image of the two screen icons is in fine to very fine condition with only minor surface and edge wear in the white borders.
