Aimee is perhaps best known in the US for her performance in A MAN AND A WOMAN. Her role in LOLA established her as a major actress and enchanted audiences of the day. Her performance as a single mother and cabaret performer in a French seaside town was poignant and references to the character reappear in other Demy films like THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG and THE MODEL SHOP. A bored young man Roland (Michel) has a chance meeting with Lola (Aimee), a cabaret dancer he knew in his teens. This chance meeting could have lasting consequences and possibly enduring devotion. The vividly drawn characters of this remarkable film are sincere, complex, and entirely empathetic. The general ambience and cinematography are beautiful and perfectly complimented by the original music of Michel Legrand sprinkled with Mozart and Beethoven.
