Kim Stanley, an acclaimed stage actress of the era, really made a splash with this performance, tearing up the screen with a degree of depth and emotion rivaled only by the likes of European actresses like Anna Magnani and Giuletta Masina. This was truly a portrait of a deepening misery and unhappiness experienced by an actress as she climbed the pinnacle of success. Stanley would make very few films over her career with this being one of the most sensational yielding her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. There are five lobbies in this group. It is the fascinating story of English governess Anna Owen (Dunne) who becomes the royal tutor to the children of King Mongkut (Harrison) of Siam in 1862. Besides the charming screenplay, the performances are outstanding, the direction intimate and compassionate, the art direction and costumes sumptuous, and the cinematography breathtaking. Indeed, the film was nominated for five Academy Awards and received the Oscar for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. This poster is in fine plus condition.
