full.sonnyboy-sheet music

Original Sheet Music (9×12) for the song “Sonny Boy” sung in the Lloyd Bacon early musical, THE SINGING FOOL (1928) starring Al Jolson, Betty Bronson, Josephine Dunn, and Arthur Housman. One of the first talkies and roughly contemporary with THE JAZZ SINGER (1927), this film was a smash hit for Warner Brothers, grossing over $4 million and making it one of the studio’s most successful pictures. With music by Ray Henderson and lyrics by Buddy G. DeSylva, Lew Brown, and Al Jolson—the song was featured in the opening credits and reprised often in the score by Al Jolson. “Sonny Boy” became the first song to sell over a million copies and eventually sold over 3 million copies. Although the photo shows the image slightly eclipsed, the real sheet music has not been trimmed in any way and is in very fine condition.

FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933) 2631

Cfootlightparade scene card 2631

This is an original Warner Brothers Lobby Card (11×14) for the Lloyd Bacon musical comedy, FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933) starring James Cagney, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, and Dick Powell. Cagney plays Chester Kent, a producer of “prologues” or short musical stage productions that were presented in movie theaters before the features. Busby Berkeley choreographed all of the elaborate dance numbers, all of which were photographed with only one camera. With a snappy script and an all-star cast, this film is one of the best of the 1930′s musical comedy extravaganzas. This original scene card is for the number “By a Waterfall,” which features “pre-code” scantily clad beauties in some astonishing kaleidoscopic choreography. This scene card is in fine condition with only some minor pinholes and a small missing chip in the upper border. Rare and wonderful.
