Eventually she leads a fight in the Texas Legislature to remove the stigma of illegitimacy from birth records. Garson delivers a fantastic performance as the compassionate and strong Gladney; indeed, she received an Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress for this role (one of her seven nominations and one win). The film also received nominations for Best Picture and Best Cinematography, and the film won the Oscar for Best Art Direction. This original insert poster is folded and in very good condition. The folds, however, are very fragile, and we recommend paper or linen-backing to preserve this classic poster.

full.latinlovers-3sh-7436

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Mervyn LeRoy musical comedy, LATIN LOVERS (1953) starring Lana Turner, Ricardo Montalban, John Lund, and Louis Calhern. Turner plays a woman with everything—including $37 million she has just inherited. But she can’t tell if men pretend to love her just for her money. She meets and falls for Montalban on a trip to Brazil. Turner was gorgeous in the film, and costume designer Helen Rose had the inspiration to dress her in combinations of black and white. She was striking in contrast to her ultra-lush Technicolor trappings. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very good condition. The poster is in two sections –never really assembled but probably used at a theater. It has some fold separation and some small tears and pinholes. We recommend linen backing for this poster. QUO VADIS (1951) 14004

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM insert poster for the Mervyn LeRoy Roman/Christian epic, QUO VADIS (1951) starring Robert Taylor, Deborah Kerr, Leo Genn, and Peter Ustinov. Originally cast in 1949 with Elizabeth Taylor and Gregory Peck, the lead actors were changed to Robert Taylor and Kerr when production delays led to Taylor being unavailable, being committed to George Stevens for A PLACE IN THE SUN. Elizabeth Taylor is said to have made a cameo appearance at the end of the movie. Originally John Huston was supposed to direct but walked out following arguments about the script. This film was Louis B. Mayer’s final big-budget production, and the film’s huge box office success is credited with saving MGM from bankruptcy. This stunning spectacle had 110 speaking parts, used 32,000 costumes, and employed over 30,000 extras. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards—including Best Picture, Best Musical Score for Miklos Rozsa, and Best Supporting Actor for both Ustinov and Genn. MGM tried to move the Christian / Roman epic from the flesh-pandering films of DeMille to something more serious. Nevertheless, the spectacle overwhelms the spiritual. This idea would not be accomplished until William Wyler directed BEN-HUR for MGM in 1959. QUO VADIS is now available on Blu-Ray DVD! This colorful epic poster is folded and was definitely theater-used. Some pin-holes exist.

THE GREEN BERETS (1968) 18497

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Ray Kellogg, John Wayne and Mervyn LeRoy war film, THE GREEN BERETS (1968) starring John Wayne, David Janssen, Jim Hutton, Aldo Ray, Mako, George Takai, Raymond St. Jacques, Jack Soo, Patrick Wayne, Irene Tsu and Mike Henry. When this film was first released, at the height of Vietnam, critics and audiences alike had a marked disinterest in its gung ho, jingoistic approach to the war. Similarly, the use of US locations (for the jungle scenes) and the casting of an almost elderly John Wayne threatened the overall verisimilitude of the project. Today, the film can be enjoyed as an unsubtle but patriotic look at the Special Forces that elevate the US military to the highest level of warfare. The one sheet offered here is in good condition only. It has a spill of some kind of liquid across David Janssen’s face which results in this grading. This poster should be linen backed in order present nicely. Priced appropriately.

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Mervyn LeRoy musical biography, MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID (1952) starring Esther Williams, Victor Mature, and Walter Pidgeon. This film is the biography of Australian swimming sensation Annette Kellerman, who overcame childhood polio to achieve fame as a professional swimmer and film star in the early decades of the 20th century. She is also known for creating a scandal in 1902 by introducing a one-piece bathing suit at a public beach. Although the usual over-the-top swimming choreography was subdued in this film, Williams still broke her neck diving off a 50-foot tower wearing a golden swimming costume. She spent six months in a body cast before recovering to complete the film. This original three sheet poster is in very fine condition.

FOOLS FOR SCANDAL (1938) 15914

Original Warner Brothers Window Card (14×22) for the Mervyn LeRoy and Bobby Connolly romantic comedy, FOOLS FOR SCANDAL (1938) starring Carole Lombard, Fernand Gravet, and Ralph Bellamy. This endearing, lighthearted screwball comedy was not a box office success because of the negative publicity surrounding the affair between Lombard and Clark Gable. Because Gable was already married, Lombard was regarded as a “home wrecker.” This original window card has been trimmed (13X16) and is in good but not fine condition. Restoration is recommended; MovieArt can arrange for restoration.
