full.passagetomarseille-sc-2556

Original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Michael Curtiz war drama, PASSAGE TO MARSEILLE (1944) starring Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Michele Morgan, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre. Many people consider this film an attempt to recapture the magic of CASABLANCA (1942); indeed, both films had many of the same cast as well as the same director, screenwriter, composer, and producer. This film is also a rousing piece of war propaganda, but has Bogart playing a French journalist framed for murder because of his political beliefs. He is sent to Devil’s Island but escapes with four comrades, who eventually wind up on a French freighter bound for home. In a great action sequence toward the end of the film, Bogart and his cohorts prevent the takeover of the ship by Nazi sympathizers. This original scene card of Bogart and other men on the deck of a ship is in very good condition with some tiny pinholes in the image area and borders.

WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954) 21217

full.whitechristmas-1sh-21218

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Michael Curtiz all-time Christmas favorite, WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954) starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. All of the performances were wonderful, and Irving Berlin’s score was about half new songs and half from previous scores. Crosby is charming, witty, and utterly delightful. Danny Kaye is hilarious, and Clooney is riveting as the older of the two Haynes sisters. Vera-Ellen as the younger sister is also wonderful and performs some unbelievably good dancing. Of course, Crosby sang “White Christmas” in an earlier Paramount musical, HOLIDAY INN (1942) also scored by Irving Berlin. Indeed, Berlin won the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year and was nominated for Best Original Song for “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep” in WHITE CHRISTMAS. This was also the first film done in Paramount’s new wide screen process called VistaVision. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed, fully restored, and in very fine condition.

THIS IS THE ARMY (1943) 7351

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original one sheet for THIS IS THE ARMY (1943) starring George Murphy, Lt. Ronald Reagan, and Joan Leslie. This feelgood wartime propaganda musical was produced by Jack Warner himself and Hal Wallis. An obvious contribution to the wartime morale effort, the film benefited from the expert directorial touch of the great Michael Curtis and some senational songs by Irving Berlin. A showcase for men in the armed forces, THIS IS THE ARMY is a prime piece of World War II era nostalgia. In very good condition with some fold separation. Should be linen backed. The part of Lane was originally intended as a vehicle for Ann Sheridan, who turned down the role played by Crawford. This original insert poster is unfolded and in fine condition.

MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933) 20552

full.themysteryofthewaxmuseum-sc-20552

Original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Michael Curtiz horror thriller, MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933) starring Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, Glenda Farrell, and Frank McHugh. The story starts out in 1921 in London, where artist Ivan Igor (Atwill) sculpts masterpieces in wax and displays them in a small museum. When his partner starts a fire in the museum to collect the insurance, Igor is knocked out and left in the burning building. Twelve years later, Igor–now confined to a wheelchair with his hands destroyed by the fire—opens a new museum in New York. But a snoopy reporter suspects that he is stealing bodies from the morgue and covering them with wax for the museum. This film was produced before the infamous Production Code. When the film was remade some 20 years later as HOUSE OF WAX (1953), all references to drug use were removed and a character was changed from a junkie to an alcoholic. And if you think the wax figures look like real people, that’s because they ARE real people. The original wax figures they planned to use melted under the heat of the intense lights. This original scene lobby card of Wray, Farrell, and Atwill in his new museum is in near mint condition.

MILDRED PIERCE (1945) 20851

full.mildredpierce-3sh-20851

Original Warner Bros Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the film-noir classic, MILDRED PIERCE (1945)– directed by Michael Curtiz (of CASABLANCA fame) and starring Joan Crawford, Jack Carson, Zachary Scott, Ann Blyth, and Eve Arden. After her husband leaves her, Mildred Pierce becomes independent and successful, but she never gets the approval and respect that she deserves from her spoiled and vile daughter Veda. Everything about this film was excellent—a stunning cast, excellent direction from Curtiz, beautiful cinematography by Ernest Haller, and a wonderful score by Max Steiner. Joan Crawford deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Actress, and both Eve Arden and Ann Blyth were nominated for Best Supporting Actress. It was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay. As a rather bleak look at the exploitation a woman working in a man’s world can expect, this film was refreshingly frank for the time. This original three sheet poster is in fine plus to very fine condition. Three sheets are printed, generally, on two panels and are joined together for display. Three sheets may be linen backed and displayed on as an integral poster. Ask us about poster conservation.
