Original 20th Century Fox Pressbook (14×18) for the Nunnally Johnson war drama, THE MAN IN THE GREY FLANNEL SUIT (1956)‚ starring Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, and Fredric March. This film is a wonderful commentary on the emerging suburban corporate culture in America following World War II. The film regularly jolts the viewer, nearly lulled into complacency by the apparent ordinariness of suburban life, with sudden flashbacks of the horrors of war. This deluxe pressbook is 24 pages and includes the usual synopsis of the film, informative articles about the cast and crew, various sizes of ad slicks, and radio scripts and announcements. In addition, there is an eight page special merchandising section to tie the film in with men’s clothing brands, war veterans’ associations, fashion shows, and libraries and bookstores. This original pressbook is totally intact with no cuts whatsoever and is in very fine condition, with only a small doodle in pen on the front cover.

This is an original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Nunnally Johnson comedy, HOW TO BE VERY, VERY POPULAR (1955) starring Betty Grablel, Sheree North, and Robert Cummings. This is the film that Marilyn Monroe refused to do for Fox. Instead, she moved to New York to study with Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio. Unfortunately, Sheree North was quickly put in her place and encouraged to look and act like a Monroe clone, which undercut the effect of this otherwise cute and clever comedy. The film was a commercial failure, and Betty Grable took this lack of success as a cue to end her twenty-five year Hollywood career. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition, with only minor fold separations.

THE ANGEL WORE RED (1960) 19809

Original MGM Window Card (14×22) for the Nunnally Johnson war drama, THE ANGEL WORE RED (1960)– starring Ava Gardner, Dirk Bogarde, and Joseph Cotten. Adapted by Johnson from the Bruce Mashall novel ‚”The Fair Bride.” this was the last film directed by the prolific screenwriter Johnson. It tells the story of a priest (Bogarde) who travels to Spain during the Spanish Civil War to join the Loyalists and falls in love with the beautiful Soledad (Gardner). Bogarde gives a dynamic performance as the tortured young priest who has lost his faith in the church but not his faith in God. Gardner, one of the most beautiful women in the movies, is also very good as the cynical yet somehow innocent entertainer and prostitute. The chemistry between the two is intense and believable. Both the Loyalists and the Franco rebels are presented as equally flawed and totalitarian. This original window card is in very fine condition.
