Original Belgian Poster (14×22) for the Otto Preminger crime drama, ANATOMY OF A MURDER (1959) starring James Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara, Arthur O’Connell, and George C. Scott. One of the best films of courtroom drama, the film was still highly controversial, based partially on the open use of words like “bitch,” “contraceptive,” “penetration,” “rape,” “slut,” and “sperm.” Upon its original release, the film was banned in Chicago. And James Stewart’s father was so offended by the film that he took out an ad in his local newspaper urging people not to see it. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards—including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor for Stewart, and Best Supporting Actor for both O’Connell and Scott. This original Belgian poster is in fine plus to very fine condition.

When Ann goes to pick up her daughter after the first day of school, there is no record of her having registered and nobody remembers meeting the girl. THE CARDINAL (1963) 5527

full.thecardinal-1sh-with photos

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger war drama, THE CARDINAL (1964) starring Tom Tryon, Carol Lynley, Dorothy Gish, and John Huston. Preminger directed this film about the life of a priest who rises in the the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, chronicling his struggles along the way– first against Nazism and later against racial bigotry in the American South. The chemistry between Tom Tryon and the sometimes tyrannical Preminger was not good, and Tryon remembers the filming of THE CARDINAL as one of the most unhappy experiences of his acting life. THE CARDINAL is one of several “epic” films that Preminger made in the sixties, beginning with EXODUS, the most successful, and continuing through to the Pearl Harbor film IN HARM’S WAY. The making of these films are covered expertly in Foster Hirsch’s book OTTO PREMINGER, which we highly recommend. At the time these films were made Preminger was at the height of his fame and power in Hollywood. THE CARDINAL is an even-handed look at the church. Certainly this film would not be likely today. The one sheet has art at least partially designed by Saul Bass. Folded, theater-used, but in very fine condition. There is an alternate style with only the Bass art and no photography.

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Otto Preminger war drama, IN HARM’S WAY (1965)—starring John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal, and Brandon De Wilde. At first this film seems to be about the politics of Navy hierarchy because Wayne plays a naval officer who gets blamed for the Pearl Harbor debacle. But really it is a film more about the personal lives and struggles of the men and women in World War II. Preminger offers a skillful blend of war drama and soap opera with memorable acting performances by his entire cast. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.
