Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Robert Altman and George W. George documentary, THE JAMES DEAN STORY (1957) narrated by Martin Gabel. Made shortly after his untimely death, the film makes use of still photographs with narration and interviews, including Dean’s aunt and uncle who raised him after his mother died when the boy was nine years old. Here his “rebel” side is seen more as an expression of loneliness and search for acceptance. The Warner’s produced documentary was early to lionize Dean, and the project was put in the hands of the young Robert Altman. This beautiful scene card of Dean with his nephew exemplifies what we mean. The photographer is Roy Schatt. Condition is very fine.

In classic Altman style, the quirky director examines the lives of three mid-1970s women living in the California desert. While alternately offbeat and depressed, they are not without their charm and unique personae as the director examines the minutia of their lives. The poster design is of a set of dinnerware — knife, fork and spoon, complimentary and opposing, each with the face of one of the women in profile on the edge. Art on this poster is by Mieczyslaw Wasilewski. Condition is Very Fine.

BREWSTER MCCLOUD (1970) 1101

Original MGM Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Robert Altman zany dark comedy, BREWSTER MCCLOUD (1970)—starring Bud Cort, Sally Kellerman, Michael Murphy, and Shelley Duvall. Brewster (Cort) is a quiet and withdrawn boy who lives in a fallout shelter beneath the Houston Astrodome and has a dream to take flight within the confines of the stadium. Some critics have seen this film as a clever parable that satirizes the emptiness of middle class values, the absurdity of human priorities, and our futile attempt to break away. Altman also treats the film as a giant bird watching extravaganza, planting bird references everywhere throughout the film. But it has not been lost on many fans of this film that the whole movie is an allegory about LSD and the counterculture of the late sixties. And interesting musical score by John Phillips. This original one sheet poster is in fine condition.

Original United Artists 30×40 Advance Poster for the Robert Altman western comedy, BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS (1976) starring Paul Newman, Joel Grey, Kevin McCarthy, and Harvey Keitel. This film is the story of a cynical Buffalo Bill (Newman), who hires Sitting Bull to add credibility to the distorted view of history presented in his Wild West Show. The film is not so much about the history behind Buffalo Bill as it is about making fun of the racist attitudes prevalent in so many Hollywood westerns. Originally folded, this 30×40 advance poster is on a brown stock paper and is in very fine condition.
