The pace is slow with incredible attention to detail, which very realistically envisions the future of technology. The special effects that were pioneered for this film are still breathtaking by today’s standards. Kurick’s use of a classical music score creates a haunting atmosphere of awe, mystery, and intrigue. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Kubrick and Best Screenplay for Clarke and Kubrick. Kubrick did win the Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects.
