Original U.S. one sheet poster for the Vincente Minnelli classic musical romance, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944) starring Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien, Mary Astor, and Lucille Bremer. Set in St. Louis in 1904, this film creates an unabashed nostalgia for an idealized America in an age of innocence before the two World Wars. One of Vincente Minnelli’s finest films, and one of the crown jewels of MGM, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS is all that one could ever hope for in an MGM musical. The film tells the story of the Smith family, living in St. Louis Missouri just before the time of the St. Louis World’s Fair. The Smith girls are coming of age, except for the darling Tootie Smith, immortally portrayed by Margaret O’Brien. When their father threatens to upend their happy life in St. Louis by taking a job in New York, each of the girls must
come to terms with change in their own way. One of the greatest of Garland’s roles, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS has become a favorite family film. The one sheet is unmounted and in very fine condition.

THE SANDPIPER (1965) 21081 PRODUCTION STILLS (24)

full.thesandpiper-stills1-21081

TWENTY FOUR different Original MGM production stills (8×10 black and white glossy) for the Vincente Minnelli melodrama THE SANDPIPER, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton,Eva Marie Saint, and Charles Bronson. Taylor is a bohemian painter living gorgeously in the Big Sur area of the California Pacific Coast. Richard Burton is the schoolmaster of an (Episcopal!) school for boys, married to the the dutiful Eva Marie Saint. Mix the two and you have an illicit romance set against the driftwood and sea gulls. This one is a guilty pleasure. MGM’s idea seemed to be to exploit the white hot fame of moviedom’s most famous couple while at the same time trying to drag the Burton’s back somewhere near respectability. Bronson is Taylor’s hunky boyfriend. These stills give a wonderful peep into the production of the movie. Condition is near mint on these fine stills. NOT ALL THESE STILLS ARE PICTURES. Inquire about the others through the website. We’ll send you photos of the rest!

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Vincente Minnelli melodrama THE SANDPIPER (1965) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton,Eva Marie Saint, and Charles Bronson. Taylor is a gorgeous bohemian painter (if only!) living gorgeously in the Big Sur area of the California Pacific Coast. Richard Burton is the schoolmaster of an church affiliated school for boys, married to the the dutiful Eva Marie Saint. The poster has that sort of modernist look to the illustration. The three sheet is comprised of two separate panels. This was a theater-used copy and the two panels are already joined. Fine condition with some obvious wear, colors good. There are some minor flaws indicative of general wear and tear. This copy would linen back very well. Ask us about poster conservation and linen backing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original French Poster (47×63) for the Vincente Minnelli musical fantasy, BRIGADOON (1954) starring Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, Cyd Charisse, and Elaine Stewart. This is the charming story of two Americans, Jeff (Johnson) and Tommy (Kelly), who while on a hunting vacation in Scotland discover a quaint and enchanted village called Brigadoon, which only appears for one day every hundred years. The original Broadway production opened at the Ziegfeld Theater on March 13, 1947 and ran for 581 performances. Kelly wanted to shoot the film on location in Scotland, but the studio said that would be too expensive; so, Minnelli had to create an 18th century Scottish village on a studio set. With original artwork by Roger Soubie, this original French poster is folded and in fine, if somewhat fragile, condition. Linen-backing is suggested.

THE LONG LONG TRAILER (1954) 7796

full.thelonglongtrailer-french-47x63-7171

Original French 47×63 one-panel poster for the Vincente Minnelli directed comedy THE LONG, LONG TRAILER (1954) starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Marjorie Main and Keenan Wynn. Lucille Ball had been in films since the mid-thirties when she worked first at RKO and then became Technicolor Tessie at MGM. Her beautiful red hair and Technicolor’s vivid hues were made for each other. But while she was well known, and adept both at light-hearted fare (BEST FOOT FORWARD ) and dramatic roles (THE BIG STREET), she was never really a first tier movie star. Her great fame and amazing career came from that box in the Living Room of the American Public, TV. I LOVE LUCY was already a ratings sensation on CBS television when MGM wanted to present the Arnazes in color on the big screen once again, and oddly in the little-used AnscoColor. The characters in THE LONG, LONG, TRAILER were not exactly the Lucy and Desi of I LOVE LUCY, but they were close enough. It was the fabulous fifties and what newlyweds would not want to strike out and bicker across the beautiful American West pulling a 40 foot trailer with a Mercury V-8? THE LONG, LONG TRAILER gave TV audiences a chance to see the small screen’s biggest stars big once again – but the results were mixed. The film was amusing, but not really as wildly funny as the Ricardos. Nevertheless, Lucy-Desi fans remember this film fondly. MGM would pair Lucy and Desi one more time in FOREVER DARLING (1956) This wonderful French 47×63 is in very fine to near mint condition. Art by Roger Soubie. Colorful and cute.
