Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Walter Lang musical comedy, CAN-CAN (1960)—starring Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Maurice Chevalier, and Juliet Prowse. Set in the Montmarte district of Paris in 1896, the police don’t bother to enforce a ban on the risque can-can dance in a popular club owned by cute and nutty Simone (MacLaine). Sinatra, who was at the top of his game at this time, gives some stunning performances of fabulous Cole Porter songs. And Juliet Prowse gives an exuberant performance as a can-can girl. This poster is an average used theater exhibited copy. The poster is folded and in very good condition. The upper left corner is missing a piece in the border area. There are no fold separations, but there is a small hole in the lower left. This poster could be linen-backed successfully. Ask us about restoration.

Original 20th Century-Fox Style A Stone Lithograph One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Walter Lang drama, SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY (1946) starring John Payne, Maureen O’Hara, William Bendix, Cedric Hardwicke, and Connie Marshall. While employing the theme of a young couple adopting a child, this incarnation has the mother dying and leaving the child to cope with the loss personally while also helping her adoptive father overcome his bereavement. The title comes from the mother’s love of listening to records and in particular her favorite hit tune of the day, “Sentimental Journey.” Sentiment, tragedy, and even a touch a comedy (thanks to William Bendix) combine beautifully in this winning and charming story. This poster is a beautiful example of the Fox stone-lithographer’s craft. Beautiful.

full.statefair-1sh-19268

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, STATE FAIR (1945) directed by Walter Lang and starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Vivian Blaine, and Dick Haymes. This was the only time that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote a score directly for film, having already had great Broadway successes with “Oklahoma” and “Carousel.” They both won the Academy Award for Best Song for “It Might As Well Be Spring.” Other favorite songs from the movie include “State Fair” and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” The film is a sweet (some may cry “corny”) look at the tradition of the state fair put to music. It had all the ingredients for a happy post-war (released on August 29, 1945) romp through Americana—classic songs, winning performers, a simply story, and a happy ending. This the second version of STATE FAIR, the first being in 1933 with Will Rogers and Janet Gaynor. Both of those films were set at the state fair in Iowa. The film was also remade in 1962 with Pat Boone and Ann-Margret and set in Texas. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed (linen trimmed up to border of poster) and in fine plus condition.
