Original French One Panel Poster (47×63) for the William A. Wellman musical mystery, LADY OF BURLESQUE (1943) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Michael O’Shea, and Iris Adrian. Sassy Dixie Daisy (Stanwyck) is the not new attraction at the burlesque theater, but somebody keeps killing all the top burlesque stars. Burlesque was all but dead by the early 1940s, shut out of most localities by relentless moral crusaders. Moreover, Hollywood’s infamous “code” prohibited most of burlesque’s “appeal” from being accurately portrayed in the cinema. But in 1941, the legendary Gypsy Rose Lee wrote a novel called The G-String Murders, which proved so popular that United Artists decided to take a chance on the film. Stanwyck provides an excellent performance—both in her dramatic scenes as well as her incredible singing and dancing. This original French stone lithograph is folded and in very fine condition. However, the poster is fragile, and MovieArt recommends linen-backing.
THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954) 13899

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the William A. Wellman action adventure, THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954) starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, and Robert Stack. This is the granddaddy of all the disaster movies that became so popular in the 1970s and is based on the best-selling novel by Ernest K. Gann. The story is about a commercial airliner that develops engine trouble on a trans-Pacific flight. When the pilot (Stack) looses his nerve, it is up to the washed-up co-pilot (Wayne) to bring the plane in safely. But each character on this flight is so wonderfully developed that you can remember clearly even the minor characters with the smallest parts. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Director for Wellman, and Dimitri Tiomkin won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with vivid colors, no missing paper, and only minimal touch-up to the fold lines.
