Fresh from his overnight success in CAPTAIN BLOOD (1935), Flynn was the archetypal Robin Hood; indeed, the young and athletic actor insisted on doing most of his own stunts, including perilous leaps and the scaling of high walls. Flynn was surrounded with some of the best character actors of the day. This film was one of the first color productions, and the entire movie is bathed in astounding color. The lavish sets and the rich score by Erich Korngold also add greatly to the production quality of the film.
