IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD (1964) 9181

Original United Artists Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Stanley Kramer cult comedy classic, IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD (1963) starring Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Side Caesar, and Buddy Hackett. With a $7 million budget, this movie wanted to be the biggest, most lavish comedy ever made with a seeming cast of “thousands” of some of the funniest comedians of the time. The movie-wags pronounced Stanley Kramer MAD when he departed from his usual brand – the socially conscious, progressive, liberal film that had marked his career throughout the 1950s — films like THE DEFIANT ONES, ON THE BEACH and INHERIT THE WIND, and filmed this comic epic for the new single-lens CINERAMA circuit. But in a way, Kramer was merely continuing his war against greed, but this time in a comic vein, using the best comedians of the era to show what happens when avarice takes over the lives of a group of people out to find a pile of buried cash. Two wonderful posters were created for the film, one by Mad magazine artist Jack Davis and this one by the modernist illustrator and designer Saul Bass. This style B one sheet is for the 35mm release of the movie. The poster has some fold separation in the top vertical fold and minor pinholes and rumples. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

Set in the Dutch West Indies around 1860, the story revolves around a bitter rivalry between sea captain Wayne and ship owner Adler. Wayne plays one of the most sinister and cruelest characters of his career. He is alternately charming and broodingly malevolent, given to alcohol-fueled bouts of violence and self-loathing, his motivations often morally ambiguous. This original Belgian poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition.

TARZAN AND THE SHE-DEVIL (1963) 17090

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian Poster (Trimmed 14×18) for the Kurt Neumann action adventure, TARZAN AND THE SHE-DEVIL (1953) starring Lex Barker, Joyce Mackenzie, Raymond Burr, and Monique Van Vooren. In this fifth and final Tarzan starring Barker, Tarzan and Jane are captured by a gang of ivory poachers led by Lyra the she-devil (Vooren). The “she-devil” is a pussycat compared to her ruthless associate Vargo (Burr)—one of the most frightening, hateful, and detestable villains in film history. Tarzan predictably prevails in the end with his victorious elephant stampede. This original Belgian poster is in very good condition.

MESSALINA (1951) 6341

This original Italian production was known in the U.S. as THE AFFAIRS OF MESSALINA and tells the story of the most notorious woman in Roman history. Felix presents a memorable portrayal of this complex ancient woman who comes to an ignominious end through her excesses and folly. The original Belgian poster presents a stunning portrait of the Mexican superstar. Although the poster is trimmed at the top with some of the playmate information still visible, it is still in very good condition. This poster would certainly be a good candidate for restoration. full-barbarella-1sh-2085

Original Paramount Pictures Style A One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Roger Vadim science fiction fantasy, BARBARELLA (1968) starring Jane Fonda, John Phillip Law, and Milo O’Shea. Based on a popular French comic strip of Jean-Claude Forest and cleverly adapted for the screen by Terry Southern, this film has been styled one of the “trash classics” of the 1960s. Barbarella (Fonda) is a 41st Century astronaut who teams up with a blind angel named Pygar (Law) to find the evil Durand Durand (O’Shea). This was the first sci-fi hero from comics to be adapted into a feature film instead of a serial like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, and the film has some of the most bizarre and surreal images of the period. This original style A one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

DR. NO (1962) 8324 SOLD

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Terence Young spy thriller, DR. NO (1962) starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, and Joseph Wiseman. This was the first James Bond feature film, and it profited from the creator Ian Fleming being greatly involved in the production. There is no overload of explosions or special effects. The plot can be told clearly, taken seriously, and enjoyed from start to finish. DR. NO set the standards, albeit on a limited budget, for the entire series. Connery’s brilliant use of charm, coolness, and cruelty truly defined the Bond character, and his portrayal of the ultimate spy has never been equaled. The film was a box office smash success and vindicated the studio’s decision to sign the unknown Connery. This original one sheet poster is folded and in near mint condition.

Just like the other films in this series, this film gives the audience a chance to share vicariously in the triumph of good over evil, as Harry once again metes out justice in his own inimitable way. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
