Original Warner Brothers Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Michael Curtiz war drama, PASSAGE TO MARSEILLE (1944) starring Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Michele Morgan, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre. Many people consider this film an attempt to recapture the magic of CASABLANCA (1942); indeed, both films had many of the same cast as well as the same director, screenwriter, composer, and producer. This film is also a rousing piece of war propaganda, but has Bogart playing a French journalist framed for murder because of his political beliefs. He is sent to Devil’s Island but escapes with four comrades, who eventually wind up on a French freighter bound for home. In a great action sequence toward the end of the film, Bogart and his cohorts prevent the takeover of the ship by Nazi sympathizers. This original scene card of Bogart and other men on the deck of a ship is in very good condition with some tiny pinholes in the image area and borders.

Original Australian Daybill (14×30) for the Peter R. Hunt spy thriller, ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE (1969) starring George Lazenby, Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, and Gabriele Ferzetti. This was the sixth film based on the famous Ian Fleming spymaster James Bond, and the film starred George Lazenby in the title role. He was quite good in the role; indeed, he was nominated for a Golden Globe as “Most Promising Male Newcomer.” Considered by many critics to be one of the best Bond movies; the film was certainly closest to the Ian Fleming source material. Director Hunt ditched all the silly gadgets but still crafted an elaborate action thriller. The film boasts a brilliant screenplay, excellent use of fantastic locations, lush cinematography, and a sweeping majestic score by John Barry

Based the immortal play by Sir James Barrie, this film is one of the best Disney movies of all time and certainly one of the iconic films of the Baby Boom Generation. The Disney version of the story is light and breezy and moves at a quick pace. When Peter, Wendy, and her two brothers leap out of the nursery window and fly over Edwardian London at night, the audience is treated to some of the most charming animation ever created for film. Later parts of the movie are equally enchanting, and the villainous Captain Hook is brought to great comic life by the Disney animators and the marvelous vocal talent of Conreid. A delightful score with a bouquet of delightful songs bring the story to life. This original six sheet poster is measure 84×84 inches and is printed on only two panels. Very fine plus.

IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD (1964) 9181

full.itsamadmadmadmadworld-1sh-bass-9181

Original United Artists Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Stanley Kramer cult comedy classic, IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD (1963) starring Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Side Caesar, and Buddy Hackett. With a $7 million budget, this movie wanted to be the biggest, most lavish comedy ever made with a seeming cast of “thousands” of some of the funniest comedians of the time. The movie-wags pronounced Stanley Kramer MAD when he departed from his usual brand – the socially conscious, progressive, liberal film that had marked his career throughout the 1950s — films like THE DEFIANT ONES, ON THE BEACH and INHERIT THE WIND, and filmed this comic epic for the new single-lens CINERAMA circuit. But in a way, Kramer was merely continuing his war against greed, but this time in a comic vein, using the best comedians of the era to show what happens when avarice takes over the lives of a group of people out to find a pile of buried cash. Two wonderful posters were created for the film, one by Mad magazine artist Jack Davis and this one by the modernist illustrator and designer Saul Bass. This style B one sheet is for the 35mm release of the movie. The poster has some fold separation in the top vertical fold and minor pinholes and rumples. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

Original RKO Style B Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Ernest B. Schoedsack adventure fantasy, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (1949) starring Terry Moore, Ben Johnson, and Robert Armstrong. This is perhaps the most charming of all the “great apes” films and certainly has the best special effects. Willis O’Brien’s and protégé Ray Harryhausen’s stop action animation made Mighty Joe Young move realistically with incredible facial motions. This is the story of a girl who raises a gorilla from infancy in the wilds of Africa. She is wooed and wowed by an American showman, played by Armstrong who was also in KING KONG (1933). Eventually he brings the girl and the gorilla back to America to star in a nightclub act. The film won the Oscar for Best Special Effects, including the famous scene where Mighty Joe holds up a stage with Moore playing a grand piano. This original half sheet poster is folded and in good condition only. It would be a perfect candidate for restoration and linen-backing.

Set in the Dutch West Indies around 1860, the story revolves around a bitter rivalry between sea captain Wayne and ship owner Adler. Wayne plays one of the most sinister and cruelest characters of his career. He is alternately charming and broodingly malevolent, given to alcohol-fueled bouts of violence and self-loathing, his motivations often morally ambiguous. This original Belgian poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In this fifth and final Tarzan starring Barker, Tarzan and Jane are captured by a gang of ivory poachers led by Lyra the she-devil (Vooren). The “she-devil” is a pussycat compared to her ruthless associate Vargo (Burr)—one of the most frightening, hateful, and detestable villains in film history. Tarzan predictably prevails in the end with his victorious elephant stampede. This original Belgian poster is in very good condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian Poster (14×22) for the Mario Camerini epic adventure, ULYSSES (1954) starring Kirk Douglas, Silvana Mangano, Anthony Quinn, and Rossana Podesta. Douglas gives a strong and convincing performance as the hero of Homer’s second epic, displaying the hero’s talent for ruses and deceptions as well as his courage and loyalty. Mangano plays both the faithful wife, Penelope, as well as the sorceress Circe. Only through a special contest and with the help of the goddess Athena—Ulysses is finally able to regain his kingdom, his wife, and his son. This original Belgian poster is in very good condition.

Original Belgian 1975 Re-Release Poster (13×21) for the Clyde Geronimi and Wilfred Jackson animation classic, ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1951) starring the voices of Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Richard Haydn, and Sterling Holloway. This wonderful Disney version of the Lewis Carroll children’s story is actually a combination of the two books, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.” Except for a fairly normal Alice, all of the other characters are slightly twisted and strangely funny. The character designs and animation are beautiful, and the songs are also wonderful. Indeed, the film’s only Academy Award nomination was Best Musical Score for Oliver Wallace. This original re-release Belgian poster is unfolded and in very fine condition.
