OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM Program Book (9×11) for the John Frankenheimer racecar drama, GRAND PRIX (1966) starring James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and Yves Montand. This film has a soap opera plot pasted on some really great racing scenes with exceptional cinematography and a great accompanying musical score. The real stars of the film are the beautiful Formula 1 “cigar” cars of the 60s. The film also chronicles how the racing world was changing from the gentlemen’s league of the 50s to the overtly commercial and brutally competitive environment that F1 racing was to become. This original program is in very fine condition.

This is an original roadshow MGM/CINERAMA Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Stanley Kubrick sci-fi masterpiece, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and William Sylvester. Based on the Arthur C. Clarke story called “The Sentinel,” the film is essentially a story about evolution. Sometime in the distant past, “something” nudged evolution by placing a monolith on earth that imparts the knowledge of tool use to early humanoids. Evolution then enables mankind to reach the moon, where yet another monolith is “deliberately buried” and emits a signal aimed at Jupiter. Then, six astronauts (four in hibernation) and a very sophisticated computer embark on a journey to Jupiter in hopes of finding the source. The pace is slow with incredible attention to detail, which very realistically envisions the future of technology. The special effects that were pioneered for this film are still breathtaking by today’s standards. Kurick’s use of a classical music score creates a haunting atmosphere of awe, mystery, and intrigue. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Kubrick and Best Screenplay for Clarke and Kubrick. Kubrick did win the Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects. This original six sheet poster with artwork by Robert “Bob” McCall is in very fine to near mint condition. Unbacked.
