HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS (1988) 15576

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original one sheet poster for the Fred Olen Ray masterpiece HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS (1988) starring Gunnar Hansen, Linnea Quigley, and Jay Richardson. They say that Hollywood is particularly inept and taking a good look at itself as a subject. Up there with SUNSET BOULEVARD and THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL is Fred Olen Ray’s seminal treatment of tinsel town. The list of titles for Ray’s films is amazing: HONEY BRITCHES, ATTACK OF THE 60 FOOT CENTERFOLDS, BIKINI HOEDOWN, BILLY FRANKENSTEIN, INVISIBLE MOM. Gunnar Hansen, of course, has sliced and diced the very best. Linnea Quigley is one of Hollywood’s most celebrated screamers. Bigger than Paul Lynde! The poster is a great condition and should framed and up in every producer’s office. We love the tagline on the poster: “They Charge and Arm and a Leg.” We’ll try not to.

DESPERATE LIVING (1987) 15648

Original New Line Cinema Special Size Poster (17×22) for the John Waters crime comedy, DESPERATE LIVING (1987)—starring Liz Renay, Mink Stole, and Susan Lowe. Subversive by nature, early Waters’ movies are purposely shocking—if not repulsive. Every single character is this film is an unequivocal sociopath. Mink Stole is positively unbelievable in her role—seething with neurotic dementia from the start. Although perhaps tasteless and certainly outrageous, the film is ultimately warm-hearted and uproariously funny. Originally folded, this very rare poster is now stored rolled and is in fine condition.

LORD OF THE FLIES (1963) 16441

full.lordoftheflies-22x28-16441

Original Continental Distributing Half Sheet Poster (22×28) for the Peter Brook adventure thriller, LORD OF THE FLIES (1963) starring James Aubrey, Tom Chapin, Hugh Edwards, and Roger Elwin. Brook’s film, based on William Golding’s novel, was released in the period just prior to the assassination of President Kennedy. For the baby boomer generation the book had been influential, along with the more famous CATCHER IN THE RYE. The story of a group of English schoolboys, stranded on a jungle island by a plane crash, and their descent from civilized kids to tribal near-savages had the goods it took to really shock readers. The talented Brook transferred this quality admirably to the screen. The movie is cast near-perfectly from a pool of unknowns. Particularly memorable is James Aubrey (1947-2010), one of the few members of the cast who went on to have a career in acting. Brook handles the actors very well, and the movie, which is, in a way, quite beautiful with its arresting black and white photography advances the story inexorably toward a disturbing anti-climax. The film was remade, and not too shabbily in 1990, but it is this version with its melancholy and beauty that is compelling. The poster is rolled, but shows some signs of use and is graded as good to very good condition. No folds, but there is some edge wear and some paper loss on the REVERSE side. Paper-backing would help this poster. Please ask us about poster conservation.

SLAVE GIRLS FROM BEYOND INFINITY (1987) 17947

slavegirlsfrombeyondinfinity-1sh-17947

According to IMDB.com writer D.A. Kellough, the plot goes something like this: “Lovely and resourceful Daria and Tisa escape a space gulag only to crash land on a nearby world where a guy in tight pants named Zed is playing The Most Dangerous Game. Zed turns the girls and another guest loose in his jungle preserve to serve as the prey in a mad hunt. Armed only with knives and their wits, the girls must battle their way accross the jungle to a hidden arms cache before Zed catches and kills them.” Did anyone really see this movie? We’re sure we don’t know, but the poster
has something to recommend it to exploitation lovers. Here’s another tidbit: Senator Jesse Helms denounced this film from the floor of the U.S. Senate. That’s good enough to reserve a place for the poster in the rec room, isn’t it. Originally folded, stored rolled, in very fine condition. One thing we know — this poster IS authentic. Also, size is odd: 28 x40.5 inches. And here another interesting note: editor James A. Stewart graduated to bigger and better things. He edited Toy Story 2 and other popular films. Such is the history of Hollywood.

THE ASTROLOGER (1975) 20537

Original Republic Arts One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the James Glickenhaus horror film, THE ASTROLOGER (1975)– starring Bob Byrd, Mark Buntzman, James Glickenhaus, and Monica Tidwell. At MovieArt we must confess we haven’t seen the film and don’t know much about it. Near as we can surmise, THE ASTROLOGER revolves around a prophecy of the Second Coming and the scientists investigating it. This is the first film by writer/director/producer James Glickenhaus, who would go on to do not much else except race Ferraris and direct the occasional C movie. One thing is apparent from glancing at Glickenhaus’ filmography and the few stars he’s worked with: he is invariably behind the cheesiest films of an actor’s career. And posters too! Priceless! Or rather $40.00. Modest fold separation at the fold intersection, otherwise fine.

This original one sheet was never used, never folded, and is in near mint condition. Wild Wild Life!

PINK FLAMINGOS (1972) 20325

full.pinkflamingos-japanese-

Original 1997 Japanese Re-Release Poster (20×27) for the John Waters cult classic, PINK FLAMINGOS (1972)—starring Divine, David Lochary, Mary Vivien Pearce, and Mink Stole. Although this film is considered by many to be one of the more disgusting and revolting pictures ever made, it does have panache. It has a freewheeling sense of no holds barred assault on bad taste that borders on innocent fun. Since the film’s release in 1972, it has become a rite of passage for those testing their own boundaries of decency. The plot revolves around a throw down challenge to Divine’s supremacy as the filthiest person alive. Beneath this seedy exterior, however, some have seen a brilliant and biting satire of our obsession for fame and lengths some will go to achieve it. This original Japanese re-release poster for the 25th anniversary of the film’s release is folded once in the middle and in very fine condition.

BARBARELLA (1968) 16302

full-barbarella 24 sheet

This is an original Paramount Pictures Twenty Four Sheet Poster (9′x20′) for the Roger Vadim sci-fi fantasy, BARBARELLA (1968) starring Jane Fonda, John Phillip Law, and Milo O’Shea. Based on a popular French comic strip of Jean-Claude Forest and cleverly adapted for the screen by Terry Southern, this film has been styled one of the “trash classics” of the 1960s. Barbarella (Fonda) is a 41st Century astronaut who teams up with a blind angel named Pygar (Law) to find the evil Durand Durand (O’Shea). This was the first science fiction hero from comics to be adapted into a feature film instead of a serial like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, and the film has some of the most bizarre and surreal images of the period. This original twenty-four sheet poster is in very fine condition.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) 1938

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Bryanston Distributing One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Tobe Hooper cult horror thriller, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) starring Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, and Paul A. Partain. This film was shot on a very low budget in the summer of 1973—the era of the war in Vietnam, plane hijackings, the Watergate fiasco, racial conflict, terrorism, and revolution. The story revolves around a group of young people who return to the nostalgic home of their childhood only to stumble into the raw and irrational cruelty of the modern world. They are systematically hunted down and terrorized by a chainsaw wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals. The actors are always believable, and the exceptional cinematography of Daniel Pearl creates an unrelenting experience of sensory overload. This one sheet poster was originally folded and is in near mint condition.
