Original Polish Poster (23×33) for the Pietro Germi comedy, ALFREDO, ALFREDO (1972) starring Dustin Hoffman and Stefania Sandrelli. This Italian film, very much in the style of other Germi hits like DIVORCE ITALIAN STYLE tells of a nebbish marrying the woman of his dreams, with surprising results requiring divorce. Poster design shows a clown-like caricature of a man surrounded by colorful parrots/love birds. Art on this poster is by Truminski. Very Fine.

Original Polish Poster (26×38) for the Ingmar Bergman psychological drama, FROM THE LIFE OF THE MARIONETTES (1982) starring Robert Atzorn and Christine Buchegger. Director Bergman follows up on violent events in the lives of an incidental couple featured in one episode of his masterful, SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE. The Egermanns have done a horrendous crime and are ruthlessly interrogated by the police in a psychological investigation involving dreams and motives. The design for this Polish poster includes two professional chairs, like those found in a psychologist’s office, inhabited by human arms and legs posed as if relaxed but removed from their essential (and missing) trunks — interesting and provocative imagery. With artwork by Wieslaw Walkuski, this original Polish poster is in very fine condition.

Original Polish Poster (26×38) for the Jacques Demy romantic masterpiece LOLA (1961) starring Anouk Aimee and Marc Michel. Aimee is perhaps best known in the US for her performance in A MAN AND A WOMAN. Her role in LOLA established her as a major actress and enchanted audiences of the day. Her performance as a single mother and cabaret performer in a French seaside town was poignant and references to the character reappear in other Demy films like THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG and THE MODEL SHOP. Poster design features a pop art image of Lola with a cigarette and a man’s chapeau a la Marlene Dietrich. Art on this poster is by Maciej Hibner. Very Fine.

This is an original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Youssef Chahine drama, THE LAND (1969) starring Hamdy Ahmed, Yehia Chahine, and Ezzat El Alaili. This Egyptian film (AL-ARD) is set in the time of the monarchy and considered to be one of the best Egyptian films of its period. In some ways, it is a righteous polemic about cultivation and respect for the land and reminiscent of films such as King Vidor’s OUR DAILY BREAD (1934) with its rousing back to the land, the power of self-reliance, and distrust of government message. In THE LAND the “city” is considered evil, and those farmers who abandon their crops and move to the city to get rich are evil too. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

This is an original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the short documentary, TURKEY AU-GO-GO. One of the oddest posters in our inventory, this poster is for a documentary short made by Universal in the mid-sixties (probably). The film seems to be about bellydancing discos in Turkey. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
