PSYCHO (1960) 16231

full.psycho-6sh-16231

Original Paramount Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Alfred Hitchcock horror-thriller masterpiece, PSYCHO (1960) starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and John Gavin. Considered by many critics to be the best horror movie of all time, this film was superlative in every way: its screenplay by Joseph Stefano, based on the novel by Robert Bloch, is extraordinary; each performance is pitch-perfect; the cinematography of John L. Russell is beautiful; and the score by Bernard Herrmann is exceptional. However, the outstanding direction by Hitchcock is the crowning touch of this great film. The handling of every nuance—gestures, glances, sudden changes in lighting—is masterful. The acting by Janet Leigh has often been praised, but the performance by Anthony Perkins with his facial tics and half-swallowed words is subtle, cool, unsettling, and just plain creepy. Prior to PSYCHO, horror movies were monsters, zombies, werewolves, and vampires. This film was the first true “psychological thriller.” Though we have become jaded with legions of realistic gore films since this movie was released, seeing a nude woman murdered in the shower was something no one had experienced yet in 1960. This original six sheet poster is unbacked, and in fine plus condition. Some minor condition issues exist, and this poster is a prime candidate for linen backing and display — or just to own as an artifact of this important Hitchcock movie.  We do recommend linen backing for this poster.  Please ask us about poster restoration services.  We have shown this poster as the four individual panels which make up the full poster.  Large photos are available of each panel.  Please email us for details.

They are systematically hunted down and terrorized by a chainsaw wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals. Original Belgian Poster (14×22) for the Roger Vadim horror classic, ET MOURIR DE PLAISIR (1960) starring Mel Ferrer, Elsa Martinelli, Annette Vadim, and Alberto Bonucci. Known in the U. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 1960 Re-Release Belgian Poster (13×21) the Andre De Toth horror classic, HOUSE OF WAX (1953) starring Vincent Price, Frank Lovejoy, Phyllis Kirk, and Carolyn Jones. In the early 1950s, box office receipts were going down because of television. Film studios and movie theaters were looking for any gimmick that would bring audiences back to the theaters. 3-D was one such device, and this film was Warner Brothers’ first 3-D film. This wonderful, creepy scare-fest also has sumptuous sets, lush color, and memorable performances—especially from Vincent Price. This original Belgian poster is folded and in very fine condition.

THE BIRDS (1963) 17056

Not knowing why the birds resort to this psychotic behavior only adds to the feeling of unrelenting terror. This original Belgian poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974) 2208

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is an original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Mel Brooks classic parody of early Universal horror-sci-fi films, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974)—starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Friedman, Cloris Leachman, and Teri Garr. Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson (Wilder), after years of living down the family heritage, inherits his grandfather’s castle and his record of his experiments into reanimation. Brooks wanted everything to look just like the original James Whale version; so, he used similar sets, black-and-white photography, and similar music to the original film. All of the cast are absolutely wonderful, especially Madeline Kahn who gives a bravura performance as the doctor’s fiancée. This original style B one sheet poster is in fine condition with only some minor distresses and small tear at the fold lines and some tape on the bottom border.

SPACE MASTER X-7 (1958) 11865

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Edward Bernds science fiction horror film, SPACE MASTER X-7 (1958) starring Bill Williams, Lyn Thomas, and Robert Ellis. This film chronicles a space probe that returns to earth covered with a strange fungus, which accidentally gets tinged with human blood and is then transformed into an ever-growing space rust. Fox used this low-budget film as a co-feature for its horror blockbuster THE FLY (1958). The British poster is a stone litho. Relatively late for this printing method — and the art is different, more charming than the U.S. posters. The poster is folded and in fine plus to very fine condition. A bit of trouble at one of the folds, but well worth linen backing. Ask us about poster conservation.

RITUALS (1977) 10487

Original Aquarius Releasing One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Peter Carter slasher/survival thriller, RITUALS (1977)– starring Hal Holbrook, Lawrence Dane, and Robin Gammell. This is the story of five doctors who go on a vacation deep in the Canadian wilderness and are stalked by a crazed maniac. The whole production is really quite good– acting, dialogue, direction, and cinematography. This film started the whole “maniac-in-the-woods” genre three years before FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) and brilliantly conveys an atmosphere of total dread and fear. This original one sheet poster is very good condition.

HAUNTED HONEYMOON (1986) 10481

full.hauntedhoneymoon C1sh 10481 VG

Original Orion Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Gene Wilder horror comedy, HAUNTED HONEYMOON (1986)– starring Gilda Radner, Gene Wilder, and Dom DeLuise. This brilliantly witty horror movie stars one of the best husband and wife comedy teams in show business. Sadly this was Radner’s final film. Wilder is completely charming and does some great understated acting in this film. Radner is also enormously funny and entertaining, and DeLuise as the eccentric aunt pulls off a great drag performance. With an all-star cast, this wonderfully fun movie has a definite “Agatha Christie-meets-Mel Brooks” feel about it. This original one sheet poster is in very good condition.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962) 5377

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original French Poster (47×63) for the Robert Aldrich psycho-thriller, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962) starring Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Victor Buono. The film chronicles the lives of two aging screen actresses who live as virtual recluses in an old Hollywood mansion. Jane (Davis), a popular child star, “cares” for her crippled sister Blanche (Crawford), whose career in later years eclipsed that of Jane. The film was a riveting psychological study, cast with astonishing actors, and magnificently directed and photographed. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards—including Best Actress for Davis and Best Supporting Actor for Buono. Over the years, because of the real life rivalry between the two superstars and the grand guignol execution of the story, BABY JANE has become a camp classic if not a revered horror film. Folded. Very Fine.
