This is an original British One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Laurence Olivier Shakespearean masterpiece, RICHARD III (1955). In addition to Olivier directing and playing the title role, he is joined by four other knighted British thespians—Cedric Hardwicke, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, and Stanley Baker. The beautiful and talented Claire Bloom plays The Lady Anne. This is probably the finest example of a Machiavellian monarch on film. King Richard was capable of using deception, manipulation, and outright murder to achieve his goals. Laurence Olivier was the greatest Shakespearean actor of his time, and this role was certainly one of his best. This original British stone lithograph one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition with some touch-up to the fold lines and restoration to the border area.

Original MGM Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Joseph L. Mankiewicz Shakespearean tragedy, JULIUS CAESAR (1953) starring Marlon Brando, James Mason, and John Gielgud. This excellent production of the famous tragedy tells the story of the assassination of Caesar by Brutus, Cassius, and other high-ranking Romans who believe that Caesar’s overarching ambition will lead to tyranny. But a moving speech by Caesar’s friend Antony forces the conspirators to flee Rome and eventually to kill themselves to avoid capture. The film won the Oscar for Best Art Direction and was nominated for Best Actor for Brando, Best Cinematography for Joseph Ruttenberg, Best Music for Miklos Rozsa, and Best Picture. This original six sheet poster is in fine condition. Six sheet posters were generally published in four separate panels. We have photographed each of the panels separately and displayed them individually so that the buyer may assess the condition of each piece. Most critics would agree that this National Theater of Great Britain production is one of the better, if not the best, films of Shakespeare ever made. It is the only Shakespeare film in which all four of the leading actors (Olivier, Smith, Finlay, and Redman) were nominated for Oscars. This original window card is in fine plus condition, with only some paper distresses at the bottom edge. A beautiful modernist window card for a splendid version of OTHELLO.

Based on the famous Shakespeare tragedy, Verdi’s opera depicts the devastating effects of hatred and jealously. More powerful than many stage productions, this film boasts excellent performances, exquisite sets, and beautiful costumes.
