VIVA LAS VEGAS (1964) 20000

full.vivalasvegas-3sh-20000

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the George Sidney romantic musical comedy, VIVA LAS VEGAS (1960) starring Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret. This film was more successful than BLUE HAWAII (1961) and turned out to be one of his best musical films. With delightful musical numbers, Presley and Ann-Margret produced great on-screen chemistry. Indeed, when the wedding scene was filmed, many tabloid magazines of the time published photos of the “wedding” and suggested that the two had actually gotten married. Originally folded, this three sheet poster has minor cross-fold separations, ghosting in the tagline, and tanning in the fold lines—otherwise, the poster is in very fine condition.

Original Ellman Film Enterprises One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Peter Clifton music documentary, THE LONDON ROCK AND ROLL SHOW (1973) starring Mick Jagger, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Bill Haley. Originally distributed in the U.K. by Pleasant Pastures, this U.S. one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition.

MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN (1971) 12740

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Pierre Adidge music documentary, MAD DOGS & ENGLISHMEN (191) starring Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and a host of some of the best rock musicians of the period. Cocker finds that he has several American tour dates left to play but no band. So, he recruits over 40 of his friends and family to help him out, and for the next six weeks Cocker and friends become a kind of touring commune. With over twenty songs, this is certainly one of the best concert films ever made. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI (1965) 7435

full.howtostuffawildbikini-3sh-7435

Original American International Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the William Asher musical comedy, HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI (1965) starring Annette Funicello, Dwayne Hickman, Brian Donlevy, Harvey Lembeck, and Frankie Avalon. This was the last AIP “beach” musical to feature Funicello and Avalon. Alas, the surfing fad had crested and was now being replaced by a renewed interest in the motorcycle subculture. Funicello, who was pregnant at the time of the filming, looks too old to be hanging out at the beach. Avalon was also tired of playing an over-aged teenager and wanted to do something new in his career. So, AIP brought in Dwayne Hickman to be Annette’s new love interest, but the two just didn’t have the chemistry that Annette and Frankie had in the earlier films. After this film, Annette retired to raise a family, and Frankie attempted to play more serious roles. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

TOMMY (1975) 9624

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Ken Russell fantasy musical, TOMMY (1975) starring Oliver Reed, Ann-Margret, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Tina Turner, and Elton John. A singing cast tells the story, set against the original music by The Who, with powerful and striking story telling by avant-garde director Russell. There has been some grousing about Reed’s singing ability (or lack thereof), but who can forget the amazing performances of Tina Turner and Elton John. Ann-Margret was nominated for Best Actress, and Pete Townshend was nominated for Best Music. This original advance one sheet is folded and in very good condition, with some irregular folds with fold stresses. This poster could be professionally cleaned and linen-backed very successfully.

FOOTLOOSE (1984) 1283

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet poster from the Herbert Ross film FOOTLOOSE (1984). Without this film there may never have been the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game. Herbert Ross directed this very (at the time) popular film about an irrepressible young boy who moves to a very square town. Hurrah for the Culture Wars! The film was remade in 2011. Kevin is shown on the poster – dancing with his Walkman. Needless to say Kevin Bacon went on to a very successful career. Poster is folded and in near mint condition.

CHUBASCO (1968) 18512

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Allen H. Miner’s generation gap drama CHUBASCO (1968) starring Christopher Jones, Richard Egan, Susan Strasberg, Ann Sothern, Simon Oakland and Audrey Totter. This timepiece from the late 1960s very clearly focuses on a theme that was first put in motion with A SUMMER PLACE — young people in love and the adults who misunderstand them and everything they’re about. Christopher Jones (whose career burned fast and quick) is very much in the mold of James Dean here as the troubled young man desperate for understanding and a place in the world. This one-sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition with minor fold distress at the fold intersections.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984) 20845

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Embassy Pictures One Sheet Poster (26.75×39.25) for the Rob Reiner rock band parody and cult classic, THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984) starring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer. Spinal Tap was the greatest Heavy Metal band that was ever made up. This hilarious mock-documentary milks every rock-band-on-tour cliché you could possibly imagine. Many later films, mostly British ones, have imitated this style ever since. As fresh today as it was when it was released over 25 years ago, original posters for the film can be scarce. This particular poster is in fine plus condition with only a small fold separation.

DON’T KNOCK THE TWIST (1962) 5494

full.dontknockthetwist-3sh-5494

Original Columbia Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the Oscar Rudolph musical, DON’T KNOCK THE TWIST (1962) starring Chubby Checker, Gene Chandler, The Dovells, The Carroll Brothers, Vic Dana, Linda Scott, and Dee Dee Sharp. A harried television executive must put together an epic “Twist Spectacular” to beat a competing network and brings together some of the best pop musical talent of the day. Besides Checker’s “twist” hits, there was Linda Scott’s “Yessirree,” Vic Dana’s “Little Altar Boy,” and especially Gene Chandler’s “Duke of Earl.” Chubby Checker was the stage name of Ernest Evans. Dick Clark’s first wife, Barbara, suggested the name as a take-off on “Fats” Domino. This original three sheet poster is folded and in fine condition—with some small distresses, a small tar in the top section, and some staple holes. There are no fold separations and the color is good.

SERGEANT DEADHEAD (1965) 11465

full.sergeantdeadhead-1sh-11465

Original American International Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Norman Taurog musical comedy, SERGEANT DEADHEAD (1965) starring Frankie Avalon, Deborah Walley, Cesar Romero, Buster Keaton, and Fred Clark. Avalon plays an Astronaut who exchanges his brain with one of those chimps that used to pilot spacecraft. The usual teen sixties nonsense. If it did not have the Disney panache of Flubber, it did have a taste of rock and roll and Buster Keaton. This folded one sheet is in fine plus condition with some minor distresses and edge wear on the lower right border.

SEX DRIVE (2008) 20479

full.sexdrive-1sh-20749

Original Summit Distribution One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sean Anders teen romantic sex comedy, SEX DRIVE (2008)—starring Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew, Clark Duke, and James Marsden. This film chronicles a high school senior (and virgin) who drives cross-country with his best friends to hook up with a “babe” he met online. This original one sheet poster is double-sided, never folded, and in very fine condition with only minor distresses.

SWINGER’S PARADISE (1965) 15091

full.swingersparadise-1sh-15091

Original American International Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sidney J. Furie musical comedy, SWINGERS’ PARADISE (1965) starring Cliff Richard, Walter Slezak, Susan Hampshire, and Melvyn Hayes. Originally released in the UK under the title WONDERFUL LIFE, this truly nonsensical musical comedy stars Richard and “The Shadows” and compares favorably with the Elvis and Frankie/Annette musical comedies of the day. The best thing about the film is the zippy pace and the surprisingly great dancing and choreography. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition. We love Cliff Richard, but he’s no DONOVAN!
