Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Frank Borzage classic anti-war drama, NO GREATER GLORY (1934) starring George Breakston and Jimmy Butler. The film is an adaptation of the biographical novel by Ferenc Molnar. Set in post World War I depression era Germany, it is the story of two rival gangs who “go to war” over a vacant lot that is the only place left for them to play. Told from the perspective of children, the film is an unusually sensitive evocation of the pain of youth and the senselessness of war. Ironically, Butler would himself be a casualty of war during World War II. This original stone lithograph one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition with only minimal touch-up.

Original MGM Stone Lithograph Six Sheet Poster (81×81) for the Clarence Brown war drama, WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER (1944) starring Irene Dunne, Alan Marshal, Roddy McDowal, Frank Morgan, and a young Elizabeth Taylor. Before the United States entered World War II, Sir Alexander Korda as sent to Hollywood by Churchill to persuade his movie mogul friends to make movies with pro-British themes, and this film is part of that mission. Dunne plays a young American girl who comes to England and falls in love with the dashing Marshal, then loses him in the First World War. She decides to raise their son in England, only to have him go to war and die in battle. A tribute to the British and American soldiers who fought in World War II, the film features a massive cast of established actors and rising stars—including a 12-year-old Elizabeth Taylor. This original unused stone lithograph six sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition, with only some minor fold separations.

Original Belgian poster for the Richard Lester anti-war film HOW I WON THE WAR (1968). This mostly surreal, sometimes comic anti-war film joined a host of like-minded movies in the 1960s. This was garnered some special attention when John Lennon was cast in the film. Beatles fans looking for some outsized performance by John Lennon were surprised by his low key part in the film. Michael Crawford, later of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA fame, was the lead here. Lester, of course, had gained a permanent place in the halls of Beatle history for having directed A HARD DAY’S NIGHT and HELP!, the first two films The Beatles made for United Artists. The poster is in fine plus condition. A small tear has been repaired with archival tissue.

Original Yugoslavian Poster (20×28) for the Stanley Kubrick war drama, PATHS OF GLORY (1957) starring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, and Adolphe Menjou. This excellent film deals with the futility of war in the trenches in World War I when a unit commander in the French army (Douglas) must contend with both the mutiny of his men and the impossible decisions of glory-seeking generals. The French army considered the film an affront to their honor and prohibited exhibition in France until 1975. At only 29-years-old, Kubrick immediately established himself as a brilliant director, whether you consider the film to be one of the greatest war movies or one of the greatest anti-war movies. This original Yugoslavian poster is in very good condition.
