YOUNG PEOPLE (1940) 19951
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41.25×78.75). Linen-backed. Fine condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41.25x78.75) for the Allan Dwan musical family drama, YOUNG PEOPLE (1940)—starring Shirley Temple, Jack Oakie, and Charlotte Greenwood. The story involves a vaudeville couple (Oakie and Greenwood) who adopt a baby girl (Temple) and then decide to retire from show business so Temple can have a normal life when she’s growing up. It was Temple’s last film for Fox and her final “little girl” performance. It marked the end of an era for the legendary child star who delighted movie audiences in the 1930s, but whose popular box-office appeal was now fading—and fading fast. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974) 3079
Original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Fine condition with only some minor distresses and small tear at the fold lines and one small piece of tape on the bottom border.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Mel Brooks classic parody of early Universal horror-sci-fi films, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974)—starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Friedman, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, and Teri Garr. Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson (Wilder), after years of living down the family heritage, inherits his grandfather’s castle and his record of his experiments into reanimation. Brooks wanted everything to look just like the original James Whale version; so, he used similar sets, black-and-white photography, and similar music to the original film. All of the cast are absolutely wonderful, especially Madeline Kahn who gives a bravura performance as the doctor’s fiancée. This original style B one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition with only some minor distresses and small tear at the fold lines and one small piece of tape on the bottom border.
WHIRLPOOL (1949) 4889
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger film-noir crime drama, WHIRLPOOL (1949)—starring Gene Tierney, Richard Conte, Jose Ferrer, and Charles Bickford. This film is part psychological drama and part film-noir. The beautiful wife (Tierney) of a famous psychoanalyst Dr. William Sutton (Conte) gets caught stealing an expensive pin from a department store. An infamous astrologer David Korvo (Ferrer) comes to her aid and uses hypnosis to make her an unconscious party to an elaborate scheme involving murder. All of the acting performances are good, especially Tierney who does an outstanding job at portraying both the vulnerability and desperation of her character; indeed, the actress used the film as a mini "comeback” after a two-year absence. The black and white cinematography and use of the camera are very good. This original one sheet poster is in very fine condition.
WAY... WAY OUT (1966) 4892
Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14×36). Very fine condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14x36) for the Gordon Douglas sci-fi comedy, WAY…WAY OUT (1966)—starring Jerry Lewis, Connie Stevens, Robert Morley, and Dennis Weaver. This funny spoof on the space program has the Americans and the Russians with two-person bases on the moon. The all-male American astronauts keep going crazy; so, the Americans decide to send a married couple instead (Lewis and Stevens). The film is super-sexy for the time with ample adult-level innuendo and tease galore supplied by Anita Ekberg’s fabulous legs. This original insert poster is in very fine condition.
VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (1961) 4888
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Folded. Fine plus condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Irwin Allen sci-fi adventure, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (1961)—starring Walter Pidgeon, Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, and Peter Lorre. Pidgeon leads fellow iconoclasts aboard a giant, futuristic submarine in a desperate race to save the earth from fiery oblivion. The submarine model and interior sets cost almost half a million dollars to create. After the film was a box office hit, director/producer Allen was able to convince ABC to turn it into a TV series starring Richard Basehart. This original three sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.
VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967) 18502
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Fine plus.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Mark Robson camp classic, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967)—starring Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke, and Sharon Tate. Based on the scandalous, best-selling novel by Jacqueline Susann, this camp classic chronicles the rise and fall of three young women in show business. Although the film was listed in John Wilson’s “The Most Amusingly Bad Movies Ever Made,” it had some good qualities—including several musical numbers with beautiful arrangements by Andre Previn and John Williams and some good performances, especially from Parkins and Duke. Jacqueline Susann was a woman of the 40’s and 50’s, and her story fits that time and not the late 60s. VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is really a big-budget movie with great production values, but based on a cheesy quasi-pulp romance totally out of sync with the period in which it is set. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition.
UP FROM THE BEACH (1965) 2240
