PIGSKIN PARADE (1936) 10157
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Fine plus condition.
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the David Butler sports musical, PIGSKIN PARADE (1936)—starring Sturat Erwin, Patsy Kelly, Jack Haley, Betty Grable, and Judy Garland. The most notable thing about this film is the feature film debut of 14-year-old Judy Garland as the young hillbilly Sairy Dodd. Garland’s handful of comic scenes and her three songs served as a wake-up call to MGM executives, and she was never “loaned-out” again in her 15 years at MGM. We have been asked if this poster has art by Al Hirschfeld. There are some conflicting opinions on this, but the answer is most probably not. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.
PEOPLE WILL TALK (1951) 16410
Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14×36). Very fine condition.
Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed this brilliant little film the year after he won two Oscars for the immortal ALL ABOUT EVE. Cary Grant plays Dr. Noah Praetorius, a doctor who believes that a healthy and balanced mind can cure a person's ills as well or better as handfuls of pills might. He believes in treating his patients as well as their diseases. This gets him into some considerable trouble with his colleagues at the clinic. Add a bit of love interest in the person of the lovely Jeanne Crain and you have this sparkling witty comedy. The movie was based on a German play by Curt Goetz, "Dr. Praetorius." And a sophisticated film it is, too, with one of Grant's best and really least appreciated performances. Thanks be to God for Joe Mankiewicz!
NORMA RAE (1979) 1872
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very good condition. Extra light crease along the top and bottom borders. No fold separations.
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Martin Ritt union organizing drama, NORMA RAE (1979)—starring Sally Field, Beau Bridges, Ron Leibman, and Pat Hingle. This excellent drama is the story of a young single mother and textile worker who agrees to help unionize her mill despite the problems and dangers involved. The film was based on the true life union organizing campaign at the J.P. Stevens Mill, where it took ten years to get a union contract after workers won the election. The film was nominated for four Oscars—including Best Picture and Best Screenplay. Sally Field won the Oscar for Best Actress, and the film also won Best Original Song. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition. There is an extra light crease along the top and bottom borders, but there are no fold separations.
NIAGARA (1953) 385
Original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9′x20′). Linen-backed on three panels. Very Fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9’x20’) for the Henry Hathaway film-noir thriller, NIAGRA (1953)—starring Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Cotton, and Jean Peters. A remarkable artifact of the U.S. motion picture industry, this extremely large and rare exterior billboard displays a huge image of the greatest sex goddess-star the world has ever known - Marilyn Monroe. This suspenseful story of love, betrayal, and murder is set against the magnificent backdrop of Niagara Falls. While Monroe is sexy and seductive garbed in a most revealing wardrobe, she demonstrates convincingly that she can also play serious roles. Indeed, this is the only movie in which her character dies in the end. NIAGARA is considered a film noir. Joseph Cotten gives a typically impressive performance as the abusive and unstable husband, and Jean Peters, who took the role originally meant for Anne Baxter, delivers an excellent performance as a totally unsuspecting honeymooner who inadvertently gets caught up in Monroe/Cotten intrigue. This original twenty-four sheet poster is linen-backed on three panels and is in very fine condition. This billboard is extremely large -- nine by twenty feet.
MY GAL SAL (1942) 19860
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine condition. Linen.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Irving Cummings musical biography, MY GAL SAL (1942)—starring Rita Hayworth and Victor Mature. This film chronicles the early life of gay nineties-era songwriter Paul Dresser (Mature) and his love-hate relationship to popular songstress Sally Elliott (Hayworth). Even though the plot is silly, Fox gave this film the full Technicolor treatment and the songs and dance are beautifully filmed. The poster has become one of the better Hayworth film posters. This original one sheet poster is in very fine condition. Linen backed.
MY FRIEND FLICKA (1943) 9577
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Stone lithograph. Linen-backed. Very Good.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Harold D. Schuster family favorite, MY FRIEND FLICKA (1943) – starring a very young Roddy McDowall and Preston Foster. The screenplay was adapted from the popular and beloved children’s book by Mary O’Hara. This simple tale of the love of a boy for his horse has been a favorite of children since it was released. The film has a nice, simple feel and would have been comforting to a war-weary America of 1943. This original stone lithograph one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very good plus condition. There is some minor distresses in the border area and some restoration at the fold lines.
MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946) 14902
Original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81×81). Stone lithograph. Linen-backed. Near mint condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81x81) for the John Ford western masterpiece, MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946)—starring Henry Fonda, Linda Darnell, Victor Mature, and Cathy Downs. Adapted from Stuart Lake’s book “Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal,” the film tells the story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers who decide in 1882 to settle in Tombstone after their cattle are rustled and their younger brother James is killed. Earp who had already served as a marshal gladly accepts the position in Tombstone along with brothers as deputies. Marshal Earp has several run-ins with Ike Clanton and his sons. When Earp is forced to kill Billy Clanton, it leads to the famous shoot-out at the OK Corral. Some critics have dubbed this film the finest western ever made, and certainly the film represents a high point in the careers of all involved. Ford’s excellent direction creates a perfect blend of drama, action, romance, and occasional comic relief. This original stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.
MARILYN (1963) 6544
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Folded. Very fine plus condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Harold Medford documentary, MARILYN (1963)—starring Marilyn Monroe and narrated by Rock Hudson. This excellent but often overlooked documentary is a compilation of clips from Monroe’s movies for Fox starting from her beginnings as a bit player in A TICKET TO TOMAHAWK (1950) to final role in SOMETHING’S GOT TO GIVE (1962), a film that was never finished. Monroe’s erratic behavior pushed the film to more than $1 million over budget in just a few weeks of filming; so, Fox fired Monroe. But when co-star Dean Martin refused to work with anybody else, Fox rehired Monroe. But when Monroe died in August of 1962, Fox decided to scrap the whole project. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.
