Pidgeon leads fellow iconoclasts aboard a giant, futuristic submarine in a desperate race to save the earth from fiery oblivion. The submarine model and interior sets cost almost half a million dollars to create. After the film was a box office hit, director/producer Allen was able to convince ABC to turn it into a TV series starring Richard Basehart.
