Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14×36). Very Fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14x36) for the Robert Wise sci-fi masterpiece, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951), starring Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, and Sam Jaffe. Everything about this film is superior: a beautiful and literate script, superb and believable acting, skillful but restrained direction, incredible special effects for the time, and a magnificent score by Bernard Hermann which utilized one of the earliest electronic instruments, the eerie and other-worldly theremin. Posters for this title are treasured by cinema collectors the world over. This original insert poster is in very fine condition.
RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983)
Original 20th Century Fox 40X60 Poster. Very Fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox 40x60 Poster for the Richard Marquand sci-fi classic, STAR WARS: EPISODE VI--RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983)—starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Billy Dee Williams. This film is the final segment of the original trilogy that included STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STIKES BACK. It is the most spectacular of the original three films because by this time George Lucas and his cohorts at the Industrial Light and Magic Company had truly perfected their special effects craft. Sensational effects include floating barges, incredible creatures, airborne cycles, death ray machines, and light sabers. We also see the progression of the character of Luke Skywalker from whinny teenager to impatient student to enlightened warrior. Luke also reaches a final reconciliation with his father Darth Vader. This poster is in excellent condition except that the left edge of the poster has some very minor edge wear and one small ding resulting in a very small paper loss.
THE MAN FROM PLANET X (1951) 16846
Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Very Fine Plus.
This is an original United Artists one-sheet poster (27x41) for the Edgar G. Ulmer sci-fi classic, THE MAN FROM PLANET X (1951)—starring Robert Clarke, Margaret Field, and Raymond Bond. Shot in six days on sets left over from JOAN OF ARC (1948), Clarke is a reporter in the foggy moor of a remote Scottish island sent to cover the story of the approach to earth of a previously unknown planet when he unexpectedly confronts a friendly alien from X. The alien’s plea for aid for his freezing planet is met with total obliteration by the British army bazookas. One of the first alien invasion films, it boasts an eerie atmosphere, moody cinematography, fun musical score, and an interesting story. While most of the one sheets - already rare - for this title show heavy use, this one is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition. One of the most charming of the sci-fi posters with its primitive art style.
ALIEN (1979) 5110
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Originally folded. Near mint condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Ridley Scott sci-fi horror masterpiece, ALIEN (1979)—starring Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, and John Hurt. For its pure sense of dread and remarkable art direction ALIEN is regarded as a great movie. Its simplicity, its cold and dark beauty, and its many iconic scenes are the chief reasons that the movie has it's many admirers. Every camera shot is gorgeous, and every camera movement is breathtaking. Director Scott’s well-honed talents of pacing and editing create an atmosphere of anxiety and fear seldom maintained in sci-fi films. The story is mesmerizing, the acting splendid throughout, and Jerry Goldsmith’s great score greatly enhances the prevailing sense of eeriness. This one sheet poster was originally folded and is near mint condition.
ALIENS (1986)
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Rolled. Fine plus condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Ridley Scott sci-fi thriller, ALIENS (1986)—starring Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, and Michael Biehn. Weaver reprises her role from the original ALIEN (1979) for one of the most exciting and critically acclaimed sequels of all time. This popular film solidified Cameron’s reputation as a first-rate director of high-tech, fast-paced action thrillers. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards—including a Best Actress nomination for Weaver. The film won the Oscar for Best Sound Effects and Best Visual Effects. The original one sheet poster for this film had a portrait of Weaver holding Henn in her arms, but the actress objected to the way she looked. Fox, therefore, recalled the original poster and released this new one sheet without the portrait. This original one sheet poster is rolled and in fine plus condition. Movieart also has the original recalled poster as well.

This was one of the first Japanese films to be shot in anamorphic widescreen (TohoScope). The film tells the story of aliens who arrive on earth and pretend to be peaceful but are discovered to be responsible for a giant robot that is destroying cities. When a group of explorers land on the island, they discover giant mutant monsters created by the space creature Yog inhabit the island. Though many sci-fi fans find the film kitsch if not amateurish, others find the film wonderfully entertaining to watch. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition.
THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953) 19952
Original Spanish Poster (28×39). Paper-backed. Very fine condition.
Original Spanish Poster (28x39) for the Byron Haskin sci-fi classic, THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953)—starring Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, and Les Tremeyne. One of the best sci-fi movies of the 1950s, this is the film adaptation of the H. G. Wells famous novel, already made famous by the radio broadcast of Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre on Halloween evening, 1938. That program, which began with a series of news bulletins without commercial interruption, caused near panic among listeners who were convinced that an actual Martian invasion was in progress. This popular film version of the story was nominated for three Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Special Effects for the near perfect swan-like flying machines attacking earth. A superb poster for this title. This original Spanish poster is paper-backed with some touch-up to the fold lines and is in very fine condition. There is some damage to the paper backing in the border area as shown on the image. MovieArt will be happy to have this poster rebacked or the paper border repaired.
