ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS (1939) 16521
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Near Mint.
This is an original Columbia Pictures one-sheet poster (27x41) for Howard Hawks' masterful drama, ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS (1939), starring Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, and Rita Hayworth. New York showgirl Arthur is on a stop-over in a small town somewhere in South America. She meets and falls in love with Grant, the leader of a small band of mail pilots who have to cross a perilous mountain pass daily. Grant, who has sworn off women, lives entirely in a world of men, totally in the moment, and united with the other flyers by the imminent dangers of their work. ANGELS was a huge hit for Hawks and ushered in his most successful decade in Hollywood. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards—Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition with only minimal touch-up. A very rare poster for one of the thirties most influential action films. A pivotal role for Rita Hayworth before she became one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Notice she's shown on the poster! This one is RARE.
THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954) 13899
Original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Very fine plus condition. Vivid colors. No missing paper. Minimal touch-up to fold lines.
This is an original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the William A. Wellman action adventure, THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY—starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, and Robert Stack. This is the granddaddy of all the disaster movies that became so popular in the 1970s and is based on the best-selling novel by Ernest K. Gann. The story is about a commercial airliner that develops engine trouble on a trans-Pacific flight. When the pilot (Stack) looses his nerve, it is up to the washed-up co-pilot (Wayne) to bring the plane in safely. But each character on this flight is so wonderfully developed that you can remember clearly even the minor characters with the smallest parts. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Director for Wellman, and Dimitri Tiomkin won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with vivid colors, no missing paper, and only minimal touch-up to the fold lines.
HELLS ANGELS (1930) 49987
Original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine condition.
Original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Howard Hughes war drama, HELL’S ANGLES (1930)—starring Ben Lyon, James Hall, and Jean Harlow. Hughes’ fascination with aviation is well documented, and he wanted to make this film as realistic as possible. He hired World War I aces to fly the planes, and three pilots died during the filming. Hughes flew a plane himself, which crashed shortly after his first takeoff resulting in several broken bones. Originally filmed as a silent feature in 1928, when sound equipment became available, Hughes decided to re-shoot the whole film as a talkie. This card features a color image of starlet Harlow, a prized rarity for this film, since an eight-minute Technicolor sequence remains the only surviving color footage of her. There were some minor flaws—including pinholes, minor creases, and slight staining to the borders. These have all been corrected, and the card has been professionally cleaned. Overall, this original scene card is in fine plus to very fine condition. An excellent example of a scarce scene card for this film.
WONDERFUL WHIRLYBIRDS (1960) 4798
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very fine condition.
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the short documentary, WONDERFUL WHIRLYBIRDS (1960)-- documenting the many uses of helicopters in war and peace time. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
AIRPLANE (1980) 15848
Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Fine condition.
Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Jim Abrams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker romantic comedy, AIRPLANE (1980)—starring Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Robert Hays, and Leslie Nielsen. This master of all spoof movies, which only took a little more than a month to complete, is a hilarious satire of the disaster movies of the 1970s, particularly the “Airport” series. It may arguably be one of the absolute funniest films ever conceived and brought to the big screen. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition, with only some toning at the fold lines.
WINGS OVER HONOLULU (1937) 20155
Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Unused. Fine plus condition.
Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the H. C. Potter romantic drama, WINGS OVER HONOLULU (1937)--starring Wendy Barrie, Ray Milland, William Gargan and Kent Taylor. Romance and the rigors of a life in naval aviation are the subject of this excellent drama. Barrie and Milland get married, but a life of wedded bliss is almost scuttled by the self sacrifice required of a navy pilot. The poster has a wonderful ambience of pre-Pearl Harbor Hawaii. This poster was never used, is in fine plus condition with some minor distresses to the folds. Would look wonderful linen backed. Ask for MovieArt's assistance with linen backing services.
