CHARLEYS AUNT (1941) 8743
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Style B. Linen-backed. Fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) style B for the Archie Mayo romantic comedy classic, CHARLEY’S AUNT (1941)—starring Jack Benny, James Ellison, and Richard Haydn. Set in Oxford in 1890, Charley Wyckham (Haydn) and Jack Chesney (Ellison) blackmail fellow student Fancourt Babberly (Benny) to pose as Charley’s Brazilian Aunt Donna Lucia, so “she” can be the chaperone on their amorous adventures with the niece and ward of crusty Stephen Spettigue. Complications arise when Babberly becomes the love object of both old Spettigue and Sir Francis Chesney. And then Charley’s real aunt shows up. Many critics consider this wonderful cross-dressing English farce to be among Benny’s greatest and funniest roles. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition. Some minor distresses at the fold lines. Some touch-up to Benny's black dress.
TOOTSIE (1982) 8210
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Advance Poster (27×41). Rolled, never folded. Very Fine.
This is an original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Advance Poster (27x41) for the Sydney Pollack cross-dressing comic masterpiece, TOOTSIE (1982)—starring Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, and Teri Garr. Hoffman is truly amazing as the unemployed actor with a reputation for being difficult, who disguises himself as a woman to get a role in a soap opera. The film was a box office hit and received 10 Academy Award nominations—including Best Actor for Hoffman, Best Supporting Actress for Gar, Best Director for Pollack, and Best Picture. Jessica Lange won the sole Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. This unfolded original one sheet advance poster is in very fine plus condition.
YENTL (1983) 8213
Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27×41). Unfolded. Near mint condition.
This is an original MGM One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Barbra Streisand romantic musical, YENTL (1983)-- starring Streisand, Mandy Patinkin, Amy Irving, and Nehemiah Persoff. Streisand both starred in and directed this "film with music" about a young girl who goes to a Jewish religious school, dressed as a boy, to receive religious instructions. Perhaps no other film bears Streisand's imprint as much as this film. With extraordinary music by Michel Legrand, YENTL is a striking testament to Streisand's talent. This original one sheet poster is unfolded and in near mint condition.
ED WOOD (1994) 19780
Original Touchstone Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Rolled. Double-sided. Very fine condition.
This is an original Touchstone Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Tim Burton comic biography, ED WOOD (1994)—starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Patricia Arquette. Certainly one of the most charming films about the heyday of the 1950s B-movie world, this film literally transports you back to that world completely. With impeccable set decoration, exquisite costume design, and crisp B&W cinematography—the film tells the story of a young, talentless but optimistic auteur who dreams of being a great Hollywood movie director. Wood thinks his fortunes have changed when he meets former horror icon Bela Lugosi (Landau), but sadly the former star is a 74-year-old foul-mouth morphine addict. Landau deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding turn as Lugosi. This film is the ultimate nostalgia trip that manages to be warm and caring—and very funny, but which takes you to a world that is gone forever. This original rolled, double-sided one sheet poster is in very fine condition.
TOOTSIE (1982) 12380
Original Columbia Pictures Insert Poster (14×36). Folded. Very fine plus condition.
Original Columbia Pictures Insert Poster (14x36) for the Sydney Pollack cross-dressing comic masterpiece, TOOTSIE (1982)—starring Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, and Teri Garr. The film was a box office hit and received 10 Academy Award nominations—including Best Actor for Hoffman, Best Supporting Actress for Gar, Best Director for Pollack, and Best Picture. Jessica Lange won the sole Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. This unfolded original insert poster is in very fine plus condition.
SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959) 7144
Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster (80.5×82). Linen-backed. Very fine condition.
Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster (80.5x82) for the Billy Wilder cross-dressing comedic masterpiece, SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959)—starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. Some critics have dubbed this film to be the greatest Hollywood comedy of all time. Monroe as “Sugar” creates one of her most loved and memorable characters, but Lemmon and Curtis steal the show when they decide to become “Daphne” and “Josephine” and join an all-girl band in order to evade the mob and get to Florida. This gender-bending comedy way ahead of its time was nominated for six Academy Awards—including Best Actor for Lemmon and Best Director for Wilder. It won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. This original six sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition, with some touch-up to fold lines and a minor repair in one small area.
