EAST OF EDEN (1955) 18967
Original Warner Bros. Lobby Card Set. (11×14). Very Fine.
This is an original Warner Bros. Lobby Card Set of eight cards for Elia Kazan’s dramatic masterpiece, EAST OF EDEN (1955)—starring Julie Harris, James Dean, Raymond Massey, Richard Davalos, and Jo Van Fleet. This was James Dean’s screen debut as the neurotic and troubled twin son of the Bible-reading lettuce farmer Massey. His performance was so riveting that he was nominated for Best Actor, the first posthumous acting nomination in Academy Award history. Dean had been killed in an automobile accident in September 1955 at the age of twenty-four. Other Academy nominations included Best Director for Kazan, Best Screenplay for Paul Osborn’s adaptation of the popular John Steinbeck novel. Jo Van Fleet was nominated and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as the mother of the twin brothers, who becomes a successful madam in Monterey, California. This original and complete lobby card set of eight is in very fine condition.
BABY DOLL (1956) 9571
Original Warner Bros. Half Sheet Poster (22×28). Very fine condition.
This is an original Warner Bros. Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the Elia Kazan's film, BABY DOLL (1956)—starring Karl Malden, Carroll Baker, Eli Wallach, and Mildred Dunnock. With a screenplay by Tennessee Williams, this film is the steamy tale of two cotton gin rivals in Mississippi in the 1950s and a sensuous 19-year-old virgin who has a penchant for sucking her thumb and sleeping in a crib. Warner Bros. took a huge gamble on this outrageous and suggestive storyline, which Cardinal Spellman of New York denounced and Time Magazine called “possibly the dirtiest American-made motion picture that has ever been legally exhibited.” The film was both a hit at the box office and with the movie critics. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Baker, Best Supporting Actress for Dunnock, Best Cinematography for Boris Kaufman, and Best Screenplay for Williams. It won the Golden Globe Best Picture award and was nominated for Golden Globes in four other categories. This poster is in very fine condition.

GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT (1947) 9417A
Original 20th Century Fox Title Lobby Card (11×14). Very good condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Title Lobby Card (11x14) for the Elia Kazan anti-Semitism drama, GENTLEMAN’S AGREEMENT (1947)—starring Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, John Garfield, and Celeste Holm. In this excellent screenplay by Moss Hart, a reporter (Peck) pretends to be Jewish in order to cover a story about anti-Semitism, and in the process he personally discovers the true depths of bigotry and hatred. Very few films confront bigotry as intelligently as this one, because it confronts the unspoken, insensitive attitudes of the many rather than the violent and outrageous acts of a few. A “gentleman’s agreement” is made without writing or even speech and refers to the many bigots who unthinkingly assume their prejudices are universally accepted. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director to Kazan, and Best Supporting Actress to Holm. The title card is classed in very good condition because of a weak upper right corner which is reinforced with paper tape and two very small border tears. Otherwise - in very fine condition - good color.
