CHINA GIRL (1942) 1055
Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14×36). Good.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14x36) for the Henry Hathaway war drama, CHINA GIRL (1942)--starring Gene Tierney and George Montgomery. This is the story of an American newsreel cameraman (Montgomery) in Burma and China just prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. After escaping from a Japanese prison, he goes to Mandalay where he meets and falls in love with Tierney, a Chinese beauty with a stateside education. This original insert poster is theater-used but still in good condition for its age. Originally rolled and never folded, it does have some smudging, some small tears and a chip missing from the left border, and pinholes on all four corners. This poster would present beautifully if restored and linen-backed.
LAURA (1944) 001
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine plus condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger film-noir masterpiece, LAURA (1944)—starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, and Vincent Price. One of the best Hollywood movies of the 1940’s and certainly one of the best film-noir movies of all time, Tierney gives an outstanding performance as the title character—a woman who seems to bewitch every man she meets, including the police detective (Andrews) who is investigating her murder. The film received five Academy Award nominations—including Best Director for Preminger and Best Supporting Actor for Webb. Joseph LaShelle won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. This original one sheet poster is in very fine plus condition - just lovely!
WHIRLPOOL (1949) 4889
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger film-noir crime drama, WHIRLPOOL (1949)—starring Gene Tierney, Richard Conte, Jose Ferrer, and Charles Bickford. This film is part psychological drama and part film-noir. The beautiful wife (Tierney) of a famous psychoanalyst Dr. William Sutton (Conte) gets caught stealing an expensive pin from a department store. An infamous astrologer David Korvo (Ferrer) comes to her aid and uses hypnosis to make her an unconscious party to an elaborate scheme involving murder. All of the acting performances are good, especially Tierney who does an outstanding job at portraying both the vulnerability and desperation of her character; indeed, the actress used the film as a mini "comeback” after a two-year absence. The black and white cinematography and use of the camera are very good. This original one sheet poster is in very fine condition.
THAT WONDERFUL URGE (1949) 1998
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Fine condition with only a water stain in the lower right corner.
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Robert B. Sinclair romantic comedy, THAT WONDERFUL URGE (1949)—starring Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, Reginald Gardiner, and Arleen Whelan. This is a remake of an earlier Fox film, LOVE IS NEWS (1937), which also starred Tyrone Power and Loretta Young. Power plays a newspaper reporter who is harassing a rich heiress, who decides to get back at him by publicly announcing the two are married. This original one sheet poster is in fine condition with only a water stain in the lower right corner.
BELLE STARR (1941) 6370
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster 927×41). Linen-backed. Very fine plus condition with some minor touch-up along the fold intersections.
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Irving Cummings western, BELLE STARR (1941)--starring Gene Tierney, Randolph Scott and Dana Andrews. If there was ever a gap between a biopic's cinema heroine (The Bandit Queen) and the real life character, it was never more greatly realized than in this film. In truth Belle Starr was a murderous Missouri hooker who slept with just about every outlaw she knew, but Fox turned her into the self-sacrificing and gorgeous Gene Tierney. Two years after GONE WITH THE WIND, Tierney was encouraged to play the role with a southern drawl. Belle is portrayed in this film as carrying on the good fight of the Old South long after the Civil War had ended, but history tells us that the woman who married Sam Starr in 1880 was a common horse thief. Nevertheless, audiences in 1941 were wowed by Tierney, Ray Rennahan's beautifiul Technicolor cinematography and one of Alfred Newman's most haunting and inventive scores. There were two one sheets for this film, as is often the case with Fox, and this is the rarer offset style B. Both sheets are pretty, but this one takes the cake, I think. This original style B one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with some minor touch-up along the fold intersections.
THE RAZORS EDGE (1946) 14815
Original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41). Art by Norman Rockwell. Linen-backed. Very fine condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Darryl F. Zanuck production of THE RAZOR'S EDGE (1946), starring Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, John Payne, Anne Baxter, Clifton Webb, Herbert Marshall and directed by Edmund Goulding. THE RAZOR'S EDGE was a prestige production for Twentieth Century Fox from top to bottom, and Zanuck took a personal interest in its production. Maugham's story of a pilot returning after his service in World War II to encounter rampant materialism and spiritual crisis is given the most expensive treatment Hollywood could offer in 1946. With a production cost of over four million dollars, careful meticulous direction by Goulding and a large cast of two superstars, several accomplished actors, and an ensemble of great bit players including the great Elsa Lanchester, Zanuck spared no effort in trying to capture the philosophical, intellectual and spiritual essence of Maugham's novel. Power, who was, arguably, Fox's top male star before World War II, returned to films for the fist time in years, playing a more mature character who has become, in essence, a seeker. Tierney plays his former sweetheart who expects Power to marry her, accept a high paying job she has arranged, and to settle into a comfortable, predictable life. But Maugham has other ideas - and thus Power (two decades before the Beatles did!) travels to India, to seek spiritual guidance. He stays for several years, meditating on the meaning of life and the value of personal integrity, before returning to the west and encountering the cast of characters from his former life - and the laundry list of melodramatic problems which Maugham has deftly provided, including sex, murder, malaise, romance, money, poverty and alcoholism. The ensuing story is complicated and not necessarily cinematic, yet Goulding manages to make the film entertaining. Anne Baxter earned an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress as one of Power's former friends beset by tragedy and The Bottle. Tierney is excellent at scheming and Clifton Webb plays his trademark roue to perfection. With a filming schedule of over 100 days, very long for the time, Goulding filled the screen with opulence of set and costume; the screenplay by Lamar Trotti searches for gravitas, but realizes not much more than a solid entertaining melodrama. The style B one sheet demonstrates Fox's desire to reach beyond the normal studio artists in promoting the film. Fox enlisted America's most famous magazine illustrator, Norman Rockwell, to create art for a one sheet which would showcase a more mature Tyrone Power as Larry Darrell, the aviator-pilgrim of Maugham's novel. Rockwell had previously painted an image of Jennifer Jones for one of the Fox one sheets from THE SONG OF BERNADETTE (1943). These two posters are the best of Rockwell's illustrative work for film posters, although he did do others. Always hard to find, the style B one sheet for this film has become quite scarce. It is clearly one of the important U.S. movie posters. This poster is in very fine condition, linen backed. Very minor distresses, which have been artfully managed by the restorer. Colors are bright. In a word, lovely.
LAURA (1944) 19856

Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14x36) for the Otto Preminger film-noir masterpiece, LAURA (1944)—starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, and Vincent Price. One of the best Hollywood movies of the 1940’s and certainly one of the best film-noir movies of all time, Tierney gives an outstanding performance as the title character—a woman who seems to bewitch every man she meets, including the police detective (Andrews) who is investigating her murder. A very singular poster for any noir collector. While the overall condition of the poster is very good plus, it is an excellent candidate for paper or linen-backing.

Original 20th Century Fox Insert Poster (14x36) for the Ernst Lubitsch screwball comedy, HEAVEN CAN WAIT (1943)—starring Gene Tierney, Don Ameche, Charles Coburn, Marjorie Main, and Laird Cregar. This film tells the story of Henry (Ameche), who presents himself at the gates of Hell only to discover that Satan (Cregar) has some question about his qualifications. Based on a play by Leslie Bush-Fekete, the film is dialogue driven, sprinkled with dry sarcasm along with some laugh-out-loud moments. The film received three Academy Award nominations—Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. This original insert poster is folded and in fine condition, with only some minor fold distresses and flaws.
ADVISE AND CONSENT (1962) 5489
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Near mint condition.
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger dramatic masterpiece, ADVISE & CONSENT (1962)—starring Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, Don Murray, and Walter Pidgeon. This is the most entertaining political film of the sixties and is about a Senate investigation into the President’s newly nominated Secretary of State. During the hearings, the nominee reveals a secret from the past, which may not only ruin the candidate but also bring into question the President’s character. The characters are beautifully drawn, the performances are all equally brilliant, and Sam Leavitt’s luminous black and white cinematography creates just the right mood. This one sheet poster created by famed artist Saul Bass is in near mint condition.
THE PLEASURE SEEKERS (1965) 5451

This film belongs to a long tradition of movies with three single women in the leads seeking a husband.
