THE OBLONG BOX (1969) M10005

Original American International Pictures Half Sheet Poster (22×28). Fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original American International Pictures Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the Gordon Hessler horror classic, THE OBLONG BOX (1969)—starring Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Alister Williamson. This was the first on-screen teaming of horror icons Price and Lee. The screenplay based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe is about a man (Williamson) who is kept locked in his room by his brother (Price). He has been horribly disfigured during an African voodoo ceremony, and , as a result, has gone completely mad. After faking his death, he seeks revenge on those he feels are responsible for his condition. The film was besieged by a number of production problems. Screenwriter Lawrence Huntington died shortly after completing the script. Also, Gordon Hessler replaced the original director Michael Reeves because of his dependence on drugs and suicidal tendencies. Reeves actually did commit suicide in February of 1969 during the pre-production of the film. This half sheet is folded and in fine condition; fold lines are apparent as in the photograph.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) 1938

Original Bryanston Distributing One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Bryanston Distributing One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Tobe Hooper cult horror thriller, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)—starring Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, and Paul A. Partain. This film was shot on a very low budget in the summer of 1973—the era of the war in Vietnam, plane hijackings, the Watergate fiasco, racial conflict, terrorism, and revolution. The story revolves around a group of young people who return to the nostalgic home of their childhood only to stumble into the raw and irrational cruelty of the modern world. They are systematically hunted down and terrorized by a chainsaw wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals. The actors are always believable, and the exceptional cinematography of Daniel Pearl creates an unrelenting experience of sensory overload. This original one sheet poster was originally folded and is in near mint condition.

CLASS OF NUKE EM HIGH (1986) 3040

Original Troma Entertainment Video Release Poster (27×41). Folded.  Fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Troma Entertainment Video Release Poster (27x41) for the Richard Haines and Michael Herz sci-fi horror comedy cult classic, CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH (1986)—starring Janelle Brady, Gil Brenton, and Robert Prichard. Released two years after the Troma Entertainment cult masterpiece, THE TOXIC AVENGER (1984)—this film tells the story of students at a high school next to a nuclear power plant who begin to start acting and looking strange after buying contaminated drugs from a plant worker. This film makes good use of the Troma formula for successful cult films: gory violence, glorious and gratuitous nudity, and lots of black humor lacking any sense of good taste and decency. Originally folded, this video release poster is in fine condition.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE (1962) 5886

Original Warner Bros. Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Very fine plus condition. Unbacked, on two panels.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Warner Bros. Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Robert Aldrich psycho-thriller, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962)—starring Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Victor Buono. The film chronicles the lives of two aging screen actresses who live as virtual recluses in an old Hollywood mansion. Jane (Davis), a popular child star, "cares" for her crippled sister Blanche (Crawford), whose career in later years eclipsed that of Jane. The film was a riveting psychological study, cast with astonishing actors, and magnificently directed and photographed. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards—including Best Actress for Davis and Best Supporting Actor for Buono. Over the years, because of the real life rivalry between the two superstars and the grand guignol execution of the story, BABY JANE has become a camp classic if not a revered horror film. This original three sheet poster is in very fine plus condition. Printed on two separate panels. This is a big poster. Ask us about linen backing.

HAUNTED HONEYMOON (1986) 10481

Original Orion Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very good condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Orion Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Gene Wilder horror comedy, HAUNTED HONEYMOON (1986)—starring Gilda Radner, Gene Wilder, and Dom DeLuise. This brilliantly witty horror movie stars one of the best husband and wife comedy teams in show business. Sadly this was Radner’s final film. Wilder is completely charming and does some great understated acting in this film. Radner is also enormously funny and entertaining, and DeLuise as the eccentric aunt pulls off a great drag performance. With an all-star cast, this wonderfully fun movie that has a definite “Agatha Christie-meets-Mel Brooks” feel about it. This original one sheet poster is in very good condition.

DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) 1999

Rare Marked Non-Theatrical One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Folded.  Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Red-letter Style One Sheet Poster (27x41) for George A. Romero archetypal zombie film DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)-- starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, and Gaylen Ross. This one sheet is unusual in that it was printed for the 16mm non-theatrical distribution by Cinema 5. It came from a college film program office, underscoring its authenticity, yet in every other way virtually indistinguishable from the theatrical-release one sheet. DAWN OF THE DEAD and its predecessor NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD are more or less universally regarded as two of the more important horror films of any era. DAWN OF THE DEAD, which was filmed largely in a Pennsylvania suburban mall near Monroeville, purports to make a major critique of corporate and consumerist culture. It does this so well, that it has been often imitated in other, less interesting zombie movies. And don't forget that THRILLER video. It's clear that John Landis and Michael Jackson drew from these marching zombies in their seminal music video. The poster has been folded a little irregularly. This is not surprising, as it is often characteristic of the messier aspects of non-theatrical distribution. Nevertheless, condition is a solid very fine, with no fold separations, no holes, no edgewear. A great and unusual item on this film. MovieArt also has several theatrical one sheets of the red letter style.

JAWS (1975) 8649

Original Yugoslavian Poster (20×28).  Fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Yugoslavian Poster (20x28) for the Steven Spielberg epic shark thriller, JAWS (1975)—starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss. This film was a box office phenomenon, grossing more that half a billion dollars and becoming the highest grossing movie until STAR WARS took the lead two years later. The movie established Spielberg as a filmmaker of first rank and helped the careers of all the major actors. The mechanical shark cost more that a quarter million dollars to create and can be seen today on Universal’s movie tour. The poster art is sensational, and was used by Universal in a carefully planned advertising campaign to attract huge audiences by the time the movie opened. This original Yugoslavian poster is in fine condition. Some foxing (spotting) on the reverse side, this poster would be beautiful if backed. See our section on Linen Backing and Restoration.

ZAAT (1975)

Original Barton/Horizon Films Pressbook (17×11).  Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Barton/Horizon Films Pressbook (17x11) for the Don Barton sci-fi cult classic, ZAAT (1975)—starring Marshall Grauer, Wade Popwell, Paul Galloway, and Gerald Cruse. This totally unbelievable plot involves a mad scientist (Grauer) who transforms himself into an amphibious sea creature (think large walking catfish) to gain revenge on those who have spurned him. Finally, he kidnaps nubile young women to similarly transform so he can mate and produce a race of super beings who will rule the world. Though roundly disparaged by critics as “terrible,” this film gained cult status and still enjoys some small degree of popularity today. Except for Paul Galloway (who had one more bit part before receding into oblivion), this is the only film the cast ever appeared in as well as most of the crew. This original pressbook is four pages with two heralds and is in very fine condition.
