This is an original Warner Bros. Insert Poster (14x36) for the Howard Hawks film-noir masterpiece, THE BIG SLEEP (1946), starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Becall. One of the best Raymond Chandler novels ever brought to the big screen, it is a story of private-eye Philip Marlowe (Bogart) who is hired to keep track of General Sternwood’s youngest daughter, but in the process he falls in love with her older sister Vivian (Becall). The delightful and witty banter between Bogart and Becall is one of the high points of this film. Though first performing opposite each other in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (1944), this film cemented the Bogart/Becall on-screen and off-screen love affair. New York showgirl Arthur is on a stop-over in a small town somewhere in South America. She meets and falls in love with Grant, the leader of a small band of mail pilots who have to cross a perilous mountain pass daily. Grant, who has sworn off women, lives entirely in a world of men, totally in the moment, and united with the other flyers by the imminent dangers of their work. ANGELS was a huge hit for Hawks and ushered in his most successful decade in Hollywood. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards—Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition with only minimal touch-up. A very rare poster for one of the thirties most influential action films. A pivotal role for Rita Hayworth before she became one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Notice she's shown on the poster! This one is RARE.

This is an original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81x81) for the popular Howard Hawks musical comedy, GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES—starring Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe. This film was flashy, funny, warm, and opulent with Russell and Monroe performing great song and dance routines in sometimes lavish and outrageous costumes. Monroe’s legendary “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” is more captivating than any of the numerous parodies and tributes made afterwards. Marilyn Monroe was never more adorable and innocent than her persona in this film. Russell also turns in a marvelously comic performance and manages to project a warm sense of sisterhood in her scenes with Monroe. Remember, POSTERS are a boy's best friend. And what boy, age six or sixty wouldn't want these two larger than life stars in their home theater. This original six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.

Original United International Productions late fifties or early sixties Re-release Half Sheet (22x28) for the Howard Hughes sex-western, THE OUTLAW (1943)--starring Jane Russell, Jack Buetel, Thomas Mitchell, and Walter Huston. Howard Hawks started as director but quit after two weeks. Howard Hughes then took over himself as director. Though the film was finished in February 1941, it was not shown theatrically for another two years, mostly because of censorship problems, which required cuts and revisions. It was finally released in February 1943, but censorship hassles caused Hughes to shelve it again until 1946. Even then, the owner of the theater in San Francisco was arrested for showing a film “offensive to decency.” Original posters for THE OUTLAW can cost a lot, but this garish reissue poster gives you the basic Russell in all her Rustic Glory. Buetel plays a pretty boy Billy the Kid. The poster is in fine plus condition.
