Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster for the John Huston romance-adventure classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with truly brilliant performances by Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. This is the story of grumpy, gin-swilling roustabout Charles Allnut (Bogart), who is running a little tramp steamer with supplies to small East African villages at the onset of World War I. When German troops invade and destroy Hepburn’s missionary village, Allnut offers to take her on the Queen back to civilization, but not before carrying out a rather daring plan to blow up a German warship. Based on novel by C.S. Forester, the outstanding adaptation by James Agee and Huston was packed with unforgettable exchanges by Hepburn and Bogart and infused throughout by Huston with hilarious tongue-and cheek satire. One of the most popular movies of 1951, it was nominated for Best Director for Huston, Best Screenplay for Agee and Huston, Best Actress for Hepburn, and Best Actor for Humphrey Bogart (which he won). One of the best Raymond Chandler novels ever brought to the big screen, it is a story of private-eye Philip Marlowe (Bogart) who is hired to keep track of General Sternwood’s youngest daughter, but in the process he falls in love with her older sister Vivian (Becall). The delightful and witty banter between Bogart and Becall is one of the high points of this film. Though first performing opposite each other in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (1944), this film cemented the Bogart/Becall on-screen and off-screen love affair. This is an original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Raoul Walsh film-noir crime drama, THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT (1940)—starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, and Humphrey Bogart. Raft and Bogart are small-time truck drivers. Sheridan is a wise cracking waitress, and Lupino plays the vicious, scorned woman. This film was popular with audiences not because of the story so much as the forceful performances by all the main actors and the excellent direction by Walsh. The most memorable moment in the film is the trial sequence in which Lupino disintegrates into hysterics on the witness stand. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.

One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Raoul Walsh classic gangster thriller, THE ROARING TWENTIES (1939)—starring James Cagney, Priscilla Lane, Humphrey Bogart, and Gladys George. Bogart and Cagney meet as Doughboys in World War I in France. A few years after the war ends, Prohibition becomes law and gives birth to bootlegging. With a sensational screenplay by Mark Hellinger, solid direction from Walsh, major performances by the entire cast, and excellent production qualities—this film became one of Warner’s definitive gangster movies. Gangster films had been extremely successful for Warners in the thirties, but this film seemed to usher out the era with great style. This poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition.

Based on a novel by the mysterious recluse B. Traven, the film explores the degenerative effects of greed, distrust, and hatred on three prospectors who team up to search for gold in Mexico. Bogart gives an amazingly complex performance as Dobbs who is clearly destined for a tragic fate. Walter Huston, the director’s father, steals the picture as the wise old codger who knows all along what will happen and takes it all in stride. Indeed, the elder Huston won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and his son John won two Oscars for Best Director and Best Screenplay. The film was also nominated for Best Picture.
